Otis sleeps A LOT but when he gets moving now he wants to go further and further each time.
All of the snow melted on the deck so he refused to pee or poop on it. Thank goodness. He went down the steps and back up like a boss 3 times today. This is day 6 post amp and the difference from day 1 is amazing!! These are very long very wide steps. I not sure he could do small steps. He is also faster now. No more walking slow as he uses his momentum to keep on hopping.
Otis used to have a bed on the floor next to my side of the bed. I literally had to step on it to get up. So each morning he would wake me up by either staring at me or touching me with his nose. We moved his bed to the floor at the end of our bed for now to give him more room. This morning I awoke to his face staring at me. I was so excited. Slowly he is getting back to his old routines.
Never a whine or a whimper. We hope Astro has as easy as a time as Otis is having.

Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17. 2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017. 4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17. Wow! Otis is having a great recovery!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.

Otis has not whined or cried once since surgery--until last night.
We order out A LOT as we all work so much. Otis always loses his mind when he hears the knock on the door or even if one of us whispers "here" if we hear the delivery guy's car pull in; so as to not let Otis know anyone is here.
Last night we heard a car door and my daughter saw the guy walking up to the door. She said "here" and as hubby went to go out the door Otis tried to jump up and let out the worst yelp I have ever heard. He was lying on his amp side and has a hard time getting up from that position. Well while hubby was outside Otis was letting out these long yells over and over for a few seconds. I ran to his bed to help him move. I picked up the corner of the bed to give him some gravity to get off his side. He let out another yelp and got up. I checked his stitches and they were fine. He never made another noise or shown pain since. This was also about 2 hours after he took all 3 of his pain meds. I had thought maybe he hurt his neck or pulled a muscle somewhere. However he just walked the whole yard with no rest and no issues.
Those noises really freaked me out.
Any thoughts?

That must have been really distressing. It's horrible when they cry out in pain. It just makes you feel so helpless.
Obviously, i'm not a ver and if you're worried you should speak to one, but for what it's worth my instinct is that this is nothing to worry about. I reckon he wrenched his incision site, or muscles or something like that, and it was really painful for that moment but then over and done with, kind of like when you stub a toe really hard or something. The fact he has had no problems since and seems comfortable and mobile is extremely reassuring. Obviously you need to try and keep him calm and quiet, as you have been doing, though it's not always easy. Perhaps it would be best to pick up your take-aways for a bit, just until Otis is strong enough to resume his delivery guy greeting duties.
Sending all pawsitive healing vibes,
Meg, Clare and Elsie Pie xxx

Astro yelped a good one when I accidentally put pressure on a sensitive spot on his incision. Vet said he has all sorts of angry nerve endings that need to adjust to the new landscape. I would imagine the same thing as Clare, that Otis just tweaked some of his sensitive real estate. I mean, jeez, the kid has been skating through with flying colors, he has to make sure you guys stay on your toes! Hope he's done with the tweaks!

Yeah, like everyone said, hinking it was a tweak of the incision, or a poking of the staples into a nerve, something like that. OUCH!!
That fact that he's fine now is real good!
Certainly, we aren't Vets and if you have any concerns, or see anything unusual with the incision, give rhem a call.
And glad that Otis felt good enough to give the "intruder" a "greeting"!
Hugs!

It happened again.
Now I'm a nervous wreck when he lays on his amp side! Quite a few hours ago, he was on the couch with me and went to try to get down. He was trying to slide sideways off the couch and his head and front leg were hanging off the couch. I was afraid he would fall so I grabbed him to help him get off the couch and he started yelping again. He then laid down and started licking his front leg like crazy. That bald spot where they had put the iv. Not sure if he was trying to comfort himself or what.
He's sleeping on his amp side right now and I'm on edge. His meds are due in an hour so I'm waiting it out to medicate him before going to bed.
His incision site looks great. He also kept me outside for awhile afterwards, with no rest break. He was exploring all over.
The first six days went so easy with no crying or whining. I think I just got used to it not happening.
