Otis slept through the night, in his bed next to ours. No whining or crying. I woke at 5:30 and took him out. He was actually standing up straighter and doing more of a hop. This morning he walked out to his water bowl and drank standing up! He went outside a little while ago and laid down to try to poop. He abandoned that plan and took a poop just like he would have if he still had his other front leg!
Amazed at the resiliency of animals.
Otis - 121 lbs pre amp - 114 lbs post amp and now 118 lb Great Dane - English Mastiff X. Started limping on 12/24/16. Diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 12/28/16 - amputation of front left leg on 1/6/17. Stitches out and 1st round of Chemo on 1/19/17. 2nd round of Carboplatin on 2/10/17 - 3rd round on 3/2/2017. 4th round was scheduled for 3/22/17 - however due to low WBC postponed - 4th Chemo completed on 3/28/17. Had breathing difficulties, stayed in Tufts ICU overnight. Due for 2 more rounds of Chemo but we are opting to go with homeopathy with Dr. Loops instead.
Happy poopy dance!!!What great news, and wonderful that you all got a good night's sleep!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Congrats and congrats on a great poop!!! It is the little things.... They are amazing, aren't they?!
Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.
October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
I am SO pleased to hear this. What a star Otis is! Three cheers for all of you!

Otis slept through the night again. Today the delivery guy came to bring him his Big Barker Bed and well he jumped up like he had all four legs still and started barking. So he has resumed his guard dog duties already! He takes the initiative to come off his bed and come over to lay in front of the couch to visit with us. We all laid on the floor with him last night. He pooped again today too!
He did get stuck on his bed last night. His back was on the edge and he was laying on his side, the one with no leg side, so he had nowhere to push off from. We grabbed him gently by the legs and rolled him off to his other side and then he was able to get up. I am amazed how long he can walk without a rest now. I do make him rest however he ignores me sometimes and keeps going until he is where he wants to be. He is hopping pretty good now, he looks where he is going so he can hop over certain parts of the house and makes sure his back legs follow correctly.
A few days before his amputation, I noticed the spark was gone from his eyes. I was afraid to leave him home so I could go to work. The next day the spark was back, however now that he got rid of that painful leg, he is so much happier and even played with his toys.
I hope we can continue to give good news and hope, to those with big old dogs -- that three legs is possible.

What a FANTASTIC update! Otis is recovering the OTIS WAY! He really seems to be speeding through the Way of the New Walk! Good on you, Otis! (And, Rhonda, Otis did let it be known that he wanted TWO Big Barker beds....one wherever he wants one and one next to your bed....) Otis, you are a SUPERSTAR!!! So glad to hear he was playing with his toys and his sparkly self is back. Whew!
Great news! Sounds like he is doing fantastic.
And my Otis and his sister Tess had three Big Barker beds.

Otis is a total champ, with a champion's spirit. Just love him to bits

Go, Otis!
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
