No, Max won't let you give up on him, because he hasn't given up on him.

I don't know if it's that he "knows he's dying", as much as It's that he knows he's living and doesn't waste energy contemplating "death".

Dogs do seem to sense sometimes when we are trying to help them. Clearly he senses that through st the vet trips.

I know all this is a kick in the gut right now. Vent, scream and rage here with us. We all have at one rime or another, that's for sure. It will also help you step out of fear and into a more empowered state. And from that empowered state you will be able to stay in the moment with sweet Max. If you grieve now for what you haven't even lost yet, it keeps you from focusing on all the wonderfulness of having Max right by your side here and now.

We are all sending love and lots of positive energy your way. Smooch Max on his handsome mug for us, okay?

Love and light,

Your synopsis of how he's coping is so lovely.

Our animals are remarkable reflections of ourselves. Clearly, Max has absorbed your courage and ability to stay focused on the here and now.You are both beautiful reflections of each others wisdom.

I'd love to share this in a blog post, if that's OK. Do you have any photos you want to share?

I agree with Jerry- your synopsis is exactly what I felt with Shelby ... she knew something was different but she wanted to fight - for her and definitely for me. She fought the most valiant fight and when she was done - there was no mistaking it. And I cuddled and snuggled and loved her like there would never be that 'end'... but they know... and they know love and you are giving Max SO much love. What an amazing team you both are.

HUGS!!!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

I'm really sorry to hear that Max had more progression.  My little girl dog Patches will be three weeks post amputation tomorrow, suspicious spot on her lung, first chemo yesterday.  This situation is a situation I've contemplated, feared, prepared for and am now accepting if that's what's to be.  I realize that she needs me to make what time she has left happy, joyous quality time.  I cry myself to sleep when she can't seem me.  I enjoy every minute with her.  I sleep on the floor with her.  I give her anything she wants to eat and massages for her entire body.  My heart aches for you and I but them.......they just live to love and no matter what, they love with an infinite supply.  I'm sorry for you, for me, for Max and for Patches.  If you need to talk......not that I would be the best person but omg the people on this site are so amazing.  I know we've come to the right place to get the best information about how to make the most of what we have left.  I know it sucks.  I know we have no control.  But with prayers, love (canine and human) and coconut almond joy ice cream I think we can make it.  I'm sending hugs and kisses to you guys and will keep you in my prayers when I pray at night for Patches and the people/pets on my prayer list.

Good luck.  we are indeed here for you.

xoxo

Thank you, Jerry. Absolutely, of course that's okay. I have plenty of pictures to share. How many would you like and how do I get them to you?

You have all warmed and heartened me so much. I am so, so grateful to the Tripawds community. Don't know what I'd do without you.
