Hi All! Thanks for the positive thoughts. We just got home from the vet with better news than the husband and I were expecting (I was pretty much expecting the worst, so pretty easy to go up from there!)
Aspen has an iliospaos muscle strain (which is the muscle that connects the leg to the spine and gives them the forward/backward movement). They can't do the laser treatment that they would normally recommend for this injury, because Aspen has two cysts right on top of this muscle. The cysts are most likely benign, but the laser could potentially turn them into cancer, and the last thing the dog needs is more cancer. So, PT and massage and back on a few drugs for Mr. Aspen. And lots of rest, no running, etc. Bummer.
Unrelated, but he's also got a little click in his ankle that I had noticed, but the vets both said that it didn't seem to be bothering him.
His lungs and heart all sounded good and clear, and the vets both agreed his joints all feel solid! We actually had 2 vets at the practice go over him b/c they were getting inconsistent reactions from him. It's amazing how much they had to man-handle him to get a clear diagnosis!
So, better news than anticipated, but not great news, as this is often becomes a chronic issue with the tripawds since they are using their body so differently than a quad-ped.
Thanks for the reading material, Jerry! I will be looking over that while we wait to get a PT visit scheduled.
As always, thanks for your kind and optimistic words and thoughts!

Soooo glad it's news that really isn't all that bad! Not at all!! I bet a bit of rest a d some meds will make a big difference. And then when you are able to add some Rehab/PT into the mix, I think that will help too!
AND, when all that snow I saw in those pictures is gone, that will help too! That is wuite a pathway you made through the snow for the dogs to walk on!
Seeing Sister Sammy running fast as lightening through the snow and through thst path was absolutely GLORIOUS to watch!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Pretty sure she was the happiest dog in the planet during that snow run!! And then watching her making Snow Angels doggy style....watching a dog experiencing pure bliss!!
And then we have Magnificent Aspen plowing through the snow, wanting to avoid the cleared stairs so he could romp in the snow.
And speaking of stairs!! OMD!! Aspen has been climbing up and down those stairs in the house? Unbelievable!
Aspen has one of the happiest biggest grins! Just confirmation that he is thoroughly enjoying his life as a tripawd and soaking up all the loving and spoiling thrown his way! 🙂 And clearly Aspen and Sammy are very, very good buddies.
Thanks for the update AND THE GREAT PICTURES!!
Hugs!
Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Great news! So glad that it was nothing major!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
That's actually a pretty common injury in Tripawds, I'm so glad that's all it was. It's painful but you're on the right path. You are GREAT for working with the rehab therapists. If you get a chance, we would love to see photos of the exercises they assigned.
Take it easy Aspen and soon you'll get to romp and roll again!
