Our almost nine-year old (birthday in May) Old English bulldogge/mix Malory was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on Friday and had her front left leg amputated yesterday. We were hoping she could come home today but the vet said that she is resting comfortably but not really eating yet so they recommended keeping her an extra day. I'm thankful to have found this site and have been trying to make sure we are as ready as we can be when she gets home. I've been reading all the helpful links I've seen recommended on other peoples introductory posts and wanted to say thank you for all the information! I'm sure we'll have many questions in the days ahead and it's a relief to know there is somewhere we can ask them.
Hi Erin and Malory, welcome. Sorry for the diagnosis! Ugh! We are here to help though, so please ask any questions you'd like.
It's good your vet is so cautious. At least that way when she comes home you'll have a little less worry. Is your house ready with traction and raised feeders for her? Are there other dogs in your home?
Let us know how she's doing. We are excited that you get to be back together again, very soon.
Love the name. Although I haven't seen a picture, this seems to fit the description of he"mix" perfectly.

So surgery is done and Malory is resting comfortably. Yes, often dogs stay an extra night or two, sometimes even more. So this is a good time to catch up on your sleep. Getting to this point in the journey is exhausting mentally and physically. Of course, far moreso for hoomans than our puppers.
Let us know what pain meds Malory comes home with. Often a couple of days after all the hospital meds are out of their system the pain med pills takeover and may need some tweaking
Okay, get some sleep and know that Malory is in good hands!
We're here to help you in anyway we can so stay connected!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Thank you both so much for your responses! Her bed, water and food are ready for her in the room she spent most of her inside time in anyway which is hardwood but we have a large area rug with backing (it's also the room with the door to the outside to keep that walk as short as possible). Luckily, she already had a raised feeder. I've set everything up for her that where she'll have to walk the floor is covered.
We do have another dog, Trudy, who is the same mix and just turned 8. She is on the calmer side (a friend recently said it best- Trudy is a dog running on cat software) but I know she has been missing her sister. Malory had to have surgery on a back leg a few years ago, and Trudy was really good about being easy on her during her recovery so I'm hopeful this will be the same. I'm picking her up at 4:30 today so will hopefully have an update later! Thanks again!
Alrighty, we'll look forward to updates when you have a chance to catch your breath.
Love this:

Looks like you have all bases covered for a safe recovery.
Remember, we are here for you every step of the way. Recovery can have ups and downs that are normal, but somewhat scary when new to the "recovery process".
Sometimes dogs sleep well the first night or so home....sometimes not. If you are lucky enough she sleeps well, grab naps while you can!
