Hi there,
My 6 Year old Rotty Kobi from the UK has been diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in his left tibia and after breaking my heart trying to decide what to do, we have decide to proceed with hind limb amputation which is happening tomorrow. I'm really concerned about how I will cope and how Kobi will cope with the surgery.
Any post op advice would be much appreciated

Hi Tanya and Kobi
My Buddy just had his hind limb amputated 2 weeks ago for osteosarcoma. The first few days are hard. Here are a few things that helped me to help Buddy.
I stayed on the bottom floor with him. I slept on an air mattress and he slept in his crate (his "security" blanket) with the door open so he could move around. He was restless the first few nights. I did my best to keep his pain well controlled. He did not eat much the first few days but I made sure I had his favorites available: Roasted chicken and salmon. He did great on 3 legs pretty much for the get go. I took time off work just to be with him but I did leave him for a couple of hours at a time and he did just fine.
Not sure if this helps or what other advice you might be seeking but feel free to email me at
Buddy is 2 weeks post op and doing great! Meet with the oncologist tomorrow.
Keep us posted. You are now part of a wonderful community. Tripawds was a Godsend for me!! I will say prayers for you and your Kobi for a speedy recovery.
Best,
Julie and Buddy
