Following the amputation 12/1 Nellie has been mostly sleeping, we've started to taper down the meds a bit and she is still comfortable. A couple times she looked like she was feeling some pain (panting, little restless) but well controlled with additional Gabapentin or Tramadol (which depended on last one we gave her and how much).

Next steps is waiting for biopsy results (pretty much 95% osteo according to vet, but there is always that hope) and starting chemo next week once stitches come out. 6 rounds carboplatin is the plan. Will likely have more questions then for those that have gone through this.

Appreciate all the help and perspective from this board. It has helped. Recovery not as bad as I'd feared- she pretty much lies on her bed and sleeps when not being fed or taken out to go potty. Perks up and sits up on 3 when she smells chicken in the kitchen, as just like always. She's getting lots of treats now. Will need to be sure to watch weight later.

Sounds great.  Many dogs perk up once the staples come out, so hopefully you will see that too.  But for right now, rest is the best thing for her!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

Looking forward to seeing some poctures of this cutie pie!

Hi Nellie and family 💕🐶

As Sally said, Nellie is a very smart girl 😉

All she needs right now is lots of rest whilst she recovers from surgery and she will be happily hoping around before you know it.

Sending you a big hug and cuddles to your little princess 😘🐾👑

Hi Nellie and Fam...we understand that every woman needs and deserves her beauty rest!  Glad you have joined us here. My Bandit made a drastic improvement about the 10th day after surgery.  He had his old sparkle back.  Can't wait to hear about your progress!  Deb and Angel Bandit
