We're using a Ruff Wear harness (thanks, Tripawds, for the advice -- I bought it when he had his surgery!), and it's a TREMENDOUS help. My husband is able to get him down the stairs to potty. And we've even let him come upstairs to sleep with us (that's what he's used to), and my husband can use the harness to help Buddy downstairs in the morning. We're using a baby gate to keep him downstairs (or upstairs, as the case may be).
He's finally learned to walk a bit with the splint. Not great, but he can get to and from his food dish, greet me at the door, etc. He still slides around and falls at times, but it's better.
The vet wants to see us two weeks from the day he got the splint to check his progress. This will be a loooong process, but we can make it through. He is, after all, Buddy the Wonder Dog.
That is great to hear about buddy. Glad he is getting along ok even with a splint.

Wahoo! Great news!! To help with traction , is it possible to coat his paw in vet wrap? That'll help keep him from sliding all over the place. That is, if he won't chew it off.
So glad the harness is working! Yes! You CAN do it b/c Buddy is!!!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!

We've never heard of using vet wrap and not sure it would stay put. Consider these recommended traction solutions for Tripawds, the PAWz rubber booties are an inexpensive way to see if your pup will tolerate wearing booties and they offer good traction on slick surfaces.

Erica, I have 2 pairs of the non-slip socks for dogs if you want me to send them to you. Dakota was big, a Golden mix, and the socks are stretchy so I imagine they'd fit Buddy. I have to see how many I have, as they come in sets.
I also have some RuffWear boots that I bought on clearance. They were much too big for Dakota and probably would be too big for Buddy, too. (They were a steal so I snagged them anyway.) If you want to go to their website and see the measuring instructions, you could let me know what size he is. If you think having a boot on his front foot would help, I'd send one along. But again, I think these were made for ponies.
Just send me a PM if you want to try either of these.
Shari
From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
