YAY! Happy got his stitches out on day 13(I took him on day 10 but he wasn't quite ready)..and now, heard from the doc.. They were unable to get clean margins when they removed the nerve sheath tumor, so now he is in definite need of radiation..pronto. We have an appointment at A&M next Tuesday, and it will start..He'll have 20 days (week days only) of radiation. I'll stay up there with him so I can take him out each day, and probably come home on the weekends with him to save money. Basically, they said getting the radiation is his only chance at recovery..So there is no choice but to do it. However, I don't like it..he has to have anesthesia each day, and I have read where their hair doesn't grow back on the radiation site. I hope, like all the other stuff, that he does amazingly well, and this is going to go by without a hitch, and that he will be healed of all malignant cells...we played a little ball yesterday, and we went for a little walk today. Still no video of the shuffle dance! I have tried! Here he is getting some sun.
He is so gorgeous! His name sure fits him. Look at that smile!
I'm sorry you have to go through that with him. We didn't do radiation w/ Abby, so I can't weigh in on the actual process/side effects, but probably others will.
I hope, like you said, that he'll get through this just as well as he's done with the rest of it!! Sending pawsitive thoughts your way for breezing through it all,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Oh what a big cutie pie! Yes, I agree, his name suits him perfectly.
We have heard great success stories with radiation therapy, he'll be fine. The next few weeks won't be easy, but try to focus on all of the good things that will come of it and try not to fret about anything negative that hasn't happened.
And when you want to vent or just chat about what's going on, you know where to go! We'll be waiting.

Hi Happy,
Panic (Piddles) had a course of radiotherapy after she had her initial limb sparing surgery, prior to her eventually needing amputation. She had a once weekly session for 8 weeks, there were no problems at all so don't worry. After she completed the course the fur fell out on the area treated and the skin turned black, but the fur did eventually grow back. I hope all goes well for you and you remain 'happy'.
Happy is so beautiful!! We'll be thinking of you and hoping all goes well with the radiation. Keep us posted.
Mary, Lucy's mom
Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative. Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!
Rio had radiation back in 2007 because her tumors were growing back faster than we could remove them. The frequent sedation was scary (twice a week for 6 weeks), and her hair fell out and never grew back, but she was 4 years without cancer coming back in that location. Yeah, it would've been awesome if her hair would've come back, but I'll take the extra years any day...
We kept a shirt on Rio through her radiation treatment, because she was a master of the sneaky licking. She even figured out how to get up the sleeve and lick, and so I ended up making her special shirts with cuffs that came down her arms so she couldn't get to the rad site. It actually healed up pretty fast after she was done with her last session...

WOW! What a beautie!!!! You sure got some good Yin-Yang coloring!!! That's gotta be a good sign!
Glad to hear you are doing well! Good luck with the radiation treatments! No knowledge of radiation.
Best wishes to Happy!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
What a cutie! No radiation experience here but we are sending you our best healing thoughts!
Spirit Samson was Spirit Tripawd Daisys four legged "brother" and ruled as the self proclaimed head of the Monkeybutt Federations East Coast Division. Lady Chunky Monkey stayed from Oct 2011 and left for the bridge in Apr 2012. Miss Perdy is left and has some big pawprints to fill.

We didn't have radiation, but have heard from others who tolerated it well. Good luck to Happy. She is absolutley beautiful!
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Okay, countdown begins on Tuesday! 20...19...18...
We're rooting for you and Handsome Happy!
