I have heard from the vet, and Sparky is out of surgery. It all went well and now my sweet boy is resting comfortably and stoned out of his little puppy mind.
Now I need to get the house ready for my little tripawd. So far, I have ordered the Ruff Wear harness, set up a non slip ramp to the backyard, penned off a nice slip proof area in the family room, ordered K-9, read the Dr Dressler books and the Three Legs and a Spare book and researched every scholarly article I could find on localized histiocytic sarcoma in dogs (found a very recent interesting one released in July 2011 which was a bit more encouraging).
No looking back now. It's full steam ahead. But first, a nap…
You will do fine (as will Sparky)! You are so much better prepared than I was. I started reading the night of the diagnosis (a Monday evening), had a second opinion appointment on Tuesday evening and dropped her off for surgery at 7AM Wednesday morning. I felt like life was caving in around me, I could hardly comprehend what I was reading. Certainly didn't have the wits about me to prepare the house before I picked her up on Friday.
Some of you guys are just awesome.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Happy to hear Sparky's procedure went well. Best wishes for a complete speedy recovery, sounds like he will be in very informed capable hands.

charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
As others have said, you are ahead of the game compared to how we were. Glad to hear his surgery went well. The next couple of weeks could be tough, but get ready to be amazed and inspired by your pup. He will adapt quickly after getting through the initial surgery recovery.
Hope he heals up fast and you guys can get back to having nothing but fun times together.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. That is such wonderful news!!!! YAY Sparky!
Let us know when he is home!
Lots and lots of healing wishes coming to you! And don't forget that we are here to listen!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Congratualtions on the successful surgery! I too was well prepared and read everything I could on Histiocytic sarcoma. We believe Coop's to be localized, but it is so hard to tell! Best of luck going forward. Check out my blog if it can be of anyhelp. Coop had an amazing recovery. He currently his chasing his monkeybutt sister all around the family room with a ball teasing her to chase.
That's awesome news! You are so much better prepared than we were. We didn't even discover this website until 1 day after Chili Dawg's amputation (wish we had found it earlier though). Make sure you get some rest too!
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
So happy Sparky is doing well and sounds like you have done lots of great research!
