Hello,

It has been a couple of rough days. I am dealing with some issues of my own. I feel i am mourning the loss of his limb. His piericing huskie cryies are breaking my heart, every time he gets up. Called the DR yesterday... more tramadol. .. I am trying to get an appt with the only holistic vet in the area.. I am really stressing. My poor Buster (Baba) .... i feel selfish & guilty. I tell myself, "I know i did the right thing , it will save his life."....I usually deal with stress by taking a walk but  I don't want to go without my Baba.
Noticed his front paw from carrying the extra weight looks  slightly bent in, I guess , i will have to tape it from now on. I did mention this to the surgeon prior to surgery & he said he would be OK...

Can anyone relate ?

Hi Kim & Buster,

First of, hang in there.  Things will get better and better.

It was never easy for me at the beginning.  My mom thought I cried, but it was just my watery eyes mostly because of the drugs.

I think my mom mourned of the loss more than I did.
I just thought that all of a sudden things were so weird, wondering why I couldn't walk the way like before? I had to re-adjust and to learn to get my remaining limbs coordinated.

I just got so confused, but not depressed.  I was so glad that the bone pain was gone, and I was just happy to be home.

Love,
Genie

Hang in there Kim. And be a strong pack leader, or Buster will pickup your negative and energy and follow. In the wild he woulld go off and heal quickly and quietly, without meds, hiding his vulnerability less he be thrown out of the pack. Or worse.

Yes, he needs your love, and of course you need his. But you have given him the best present: time, pain-free. The surgey pain will subside. His cancer would only have gotten worse.

Live in the now and make Buster proud. He needs your direction most. And soon you'll be taking lost of more walks, just shorter than usual, and you won't be alone.

That positive energy is very important 'round your Tripawd, especially in the few days after surgery. Since Lalla's surgery in 2006 I've had to use every single ounce of my inherent British sense of humor to lighten up for her sake - and it worked on me, too. The new acheivements, big and small will make you both shine. We're also going through a rough patch, as Lalla is not in good shape and we have x-rays scheduled for Sunday. I stood outside the door when I got home from work and convinced myself the rest of the day was going to be about smiling and not letting her feel my stress...and boy, to see those tail wags when I got in the door... a good recipe for thinking positively is to think creatively, even if it means doing ridiculously silly things together to cheer up (I let Lalla off the leash when we see a cat for example so she can feel her full self)...sharing an ice cream is also good!

Hi Kim,

I can totally relate. Luigi is 8 days post op. He's been off the Fentanyl patch since Monday night and is doing much better. Still he cries out in pain when he changes position and it bothers us. But when I think about having my arm taken off I'd probably be crying out in pain 8 days out. He will use the last of his codeine tonight and we phased in Tremadol yesterday. I am a little worried about phasing out the codeine tomorrow.

Familiar behaviors are returning. He demanded to get under the covers this morning and he came to the kitchen at dinner time and waited expectactly just long the old days. We were so happy!

Now I'm thinking about the transistions to our new tripawd life. I've asked the hubby to build stairs to make it easier for Luigi to get in bed under the covers and to get into the car.

Keep me posted. I hope Buster starts feeling better soon.

Hello,

Yes, all the healing postive energy is working. Today is a better one ...one step at a time. I know he picks up on my vibe. I am just an overly protective mom due to his tempory vulneralbitly. He is the alpha dog here. I failed to mention i also have a pit in the house. I am trying to keep her confined for now. Does anyone else have another dog too ??

Buster started with an ear infection. He was weirded out at the local vet. He slipped and tired out real easy. Also finally got a holistic vet app on May 13 to improve his health & immune system.

Ps How do i find other tripawd dogs in my area.?post surgery recovery

Wow, Buster has incredible eyes!

We are so happy to hear he's doing better. One hop at a time . . . . the spunk will return, just wait!

And here is one way you can find other Tripawds around the world:

My people just fixed the link. Good luck finding local tripawds, but no promises. They best thing to do might be to put fliers up at pet stores and vet's offices. We just happen to have some that we'll be posting soon!Stay tuned...

Hmmm ... not quite sure what you mean, but if you're having trouble with the widget interface try joining the Frappr Bone Cancer Dogs Map directly on the Frappr website.

My people didn't develop the map, they just embedded the Frappr code on this site for others to view. Good luck!
