Well Max managed to open an inch or so of his incision so now he's at the vet getting a few more stiches put in. He is just such a high energy dog it's so hard to keep him from going full throttle. This morning he tore thru the rocking chair we put in front of the doorway to keep him contained and I guess that's when it happened. He never missed a beat though. It didn't bleed at all though and maybe it even felt better to him because all the fluid probably came out so pressure was gone. However this is just a small bump in the road and we can deal ok with this. Sure doesn't hamper his mobility one bit. We also got the report back. It was osteosarcoma (which we pretty much already knew) but the GREAT news was that the lymph nodes came back clear!! I feel so much better hearing that. WE WILL BEAT THIS!!! Pam you are right cool whip containers definitely have a new meaning in our world now! Thank you ALL for being on this journey with us. I NEVER could have done it on my own. Your knowledge and strength have kept me reasonably calm in any situation and your support lifts me up daily!!
MAAAAAAAX!!! MAAAAAAX!!! You are a wild and craaaaazy boy! Nothing's gonna slow you down
Yeah, I think by the time the "diagnosis" comes in we're all pretty much over and just ready to get on with making each day count! That IS good about no lymph involvement though!
Max, you are a stellar example of what it looks like once the sparkle comes back! And a smart boy too! Guess you also decided to get rid of the extra fluid your own way!
That stupid piece of crap disease has nooooo idea what it's trying to mess with! Mighty Max ain't takin' no prisoners on this journey!
ROCK on Max!...Not run through ROCKing chairs!

Silly Max... sounds like he's doing great, aside from his antics. 🙂 Please keep us posted!

Max came home at 4:30 yesterday from his repair of surgery site and was pretty groggy. He now has two drains sewn in so I guess we start over on incision healing. Still doesn't seem to be in pain and is still getting around fine. The rest of the incision looks great so hopefully this will now heal up too. They said these stitches can come out in 1 week so we will make an appointment in Green Bay for Thursday for all to come out then. On a good note he slept fantastic last night. Apparently being drugged helps! While we have dealt with a few incision issues I am thankful for all the good things that have blessed us in this journey. Max is essentially out of pain, his sparkle has come back and each day he becomes more "Max". He has taught us to live in each moment and shown us his fighting spirit. Now if we can go more than one day without having to see a vet I will be a happy "grandma".
Awwwww so glad you guys are making progress like this! Yes, it's a roller coaster at times but you guys are doing great. I'm so glad he's able to rest. Pain killers are there for a reason, so be sure to stay on schedule with the meds and you'll both get more relaxation over the next few days.
We'd love to see some photos! If you have challenges adding them (here's how) send them to me OK?

Yay Max! In the grand scheme of setback issues, it could be worse. It's great seeing how you guys have "become more dog"! It's how we try to live life now too. Can't wait for him to get his stitches/staples out.....that means hopefully we get to meet.
Paula and Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
"Be good, mama loves you".....run free my beautiful Warrior
Sally I sent you a PM. Max continues to do well mobility wise. I took a video of him but so far haven't mastered posting it. Was on my IPad so maybe that has something to do with it. I did share it with Paula and Shawn so they can vouch that Max is doing well. Vet in Appleton put him on a new antibiotic because of seroma . He's now on Augmentin which I guess is supposed to be a broader spectrum antibiotic. We clean that part of the incision with the drain with Hibiclense twice a day also for bacteria control. We have an appointment with Appleton vet that did the surgery on Wednesday morning. Following that we will take a drive to Green Bay to return harness to Paula and get to meet up. Looking forward to actually meeting her and John although I feel I already know her because she's been such a great support resource. Above and beyond she has gone. I sure hope I can someday be of help to someone else and paying it forward.
Yay Max! Lookin great my friend!

Okay, I'm pretty sure I javr a permanent smile etched on my face now! What a terrific vido of a very happy-gettin'-on-with-life Max!! Nothing's stopping that boy from enjoying his day!. Looks like his doggy pal is keeping a watchful eye on him too.
I DID get your PM just a bit ago and emailed you back. Thank you!!
Loving seeing Max be Max! He really is a very handsome boy!
Be sure and take pictures when you get together with sweet Paula and John and Nitro at your very own mini Tripawd Pawty! No strangers here, that's for sure!
Hugs to all!

PS...next on your "to do" list...Max's photo in the avatar. Just so you'll know, the only way I figured out how to do Happay Hannah's was...you guessed it...email the picture of her (holding her food bowl in her mouth...she was born that way!) to sweet Rene!
