McGwire has had an eye infection for a while that won't clear up, and I noticed this morning that he actually has a small, kind of bulbous mass on the inside of his upper eyelid. I don't want to take him to the vet unnecessarily, and if it's not a dire, life-threatening situation, I probably won't have it removed. On the other hand, there's that nasty C word that keeps popping up...
It sounds like a Meibomian cyst (a sty) which is a plugged duct. These sometimes come to a head with dilute boric acid soaks or you may need eye meds from your vet. Sometimes eyelid tumors do occur but they tend to be solid and the melanomas are a black color.
It doesn't sound like an emergency but you might want to get it checked out.
Pam and Tazzie
Thanks Pam. That's exactly what the vet said it was. He has severe dry eyes-they put this paper in his eye and when they should have gotten 15-20+, they only got 6 on each eye. Now he has to go on 'restasis' for dogs. It's funny how the whole cancer thing has made me so completely paranoid and such a pessimist! I'm usually so optimistic, but now it seems I'm always just sitting around waiting for the other shoe to drop. Ah, the joys of living with cancer...
