Ok, so we came home Wed, changed from Tramadol to 5mg Oxycodone 2x/day on Friday, through Monday she was great! Hopping around, eager to hop all around the yard… we had to drag her back inside! Yesterday and today she seems very sore. Not eager to go out, just goes out to pee and wants to come back in…slow when she does move… I'm thinking it would make sense that she's sore - she's using different muscles now to get around - abdominal muscles to “hop”? Has anyone else seen this a week after surgery?

Best guess is she just overdid it?
Cooper had elbow surgery (same damn elbow) back in October. A few weeks after that, I started him on physical therapy on an underwater treadmill. He did five minutes at low speed the first time and was really stiff and creaky the next day. It's amazing how quickly muscles can atrophy...I was surprised because he was such an athletic dog, I figured five minutes was nothing.
I've also wondered if the abs and back can get stiff, with such a different gait.
Yep, sounds like she definitely got hopped up and overdid it. And yes, she's using different muscles and they need time to get stronger. Hang in there, it's all part of the learning curve after surgery, figuring out how much playtime they can handle and how far they can walk, etc. You'll get the hang of it and so will she, just watch!

Trouble had some soreness about the same time during recovery. She had just finished up her pain meds and antibiotics, gotten real stubborn had insisted we do the full border patrol of our yard even though she had to lay down and rest several times. The next day she was about the same as Marley - not at all enthusiastic about being outside the next day. We put her back on Rimadyl for a few more days until she had gained a little more strength.
