Yes, welcome Kayla! Thanks for sharing.  Sorry about Kayla's cancer - that's got to be really hard.  But loved the Tana story which is amazing!   Feel free to come over anytime!  Heck, Comet hasn't been through cancer nor an amputation so you don't have to be 3-legged!  (and you don't have to be 50 years old either! I'm not by 5 years! laughing)

That's not funny.  Is that a heart or lung problem?  At 43, you must have been terrified.  I'm sorry to hear it and yes, we are very glad you are here, too!  My dad was diagnosed with an enlarged heart at 34 and died at 44.  My brother went to bed and died suddenly just shy of 44 years old from Hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain).  With 50% of my immediate family gone before 45, I totally celebrated turning 45 years old this year.

OMG - Ge'Lena - I hope you had LOTS of ice cream when you celebrated turning 45 !! wink or something equally special. That's some family history ! I'm very sorry ... truly.

and Ruthigirl !! Good grief - I think you should be dancing in the streets - carefully, of course. Celebrate each day.

Welcome Kayla ! I am honored that you have a dog with the same name as me (Tana) ! What a story - and what a fighter she must be. You sound like a kind-hearted soul to have taken in and cared for a dog that badly hurt. Do keep coming back - we'd love to keep up with you and your dogs.

Thanks for sharing your story.

Ok - I'm really late posting here... but wanted to jump in cuz you have started my day off with some good belly laughs!  I know I won't remember all the stuff I want to say (I'm with Tana - within 6 months of 50, so would like to join the club prematurely since I definitely won't remember to when I turn 50!), but here goes.... First off, Diane I am so sorry to hear the latest news about Magic.  You are such a great pack leader for him, and we all know that you two have a very special bond.  You're doing so much for Magic and we're hoping he still has lots of time left with you.  We're not ready to give up all the great stories!  We'll be keeping you both in our hearts.

And Tana, I'm so sorry to hear about your job - but you have a great attitude about starting anew and we'll help keep you pawsitive as you see how the next chapter unfolds.  It sounds like there are a few of us 1960 babies here - we'll have to celebrate 50 together somehow.

Ge'Lena - I don't even know where to start.  You definitely deserved lots and lots of ICE CREAM on your 45th.  I'd have joined you for that!

Karen - I laughed so hard about Tani not letting guests leave cuz my dad had a dog named Wolf who would let anyone in the house but would not let anyone leave.  One Xmas eve the family had gone to midnight mass and while they were gone one of their neighbors mistakenly went into my dad's rowhouse in Brooklyn instead of his (he'd been celebrating at the local pub).  No problem getting in.... but once he realized he was in the wrong house he couldn't leave!  When my dad's family got home from church they found the guy sitting on the banister with Wolf sitting right below him growling.  I bet that guy never drank again!

Hey - I just got Holly to eat her ENTIRE breakfast!  This is after not looking at her food at all yesterday - even chicken.  So I'm thinking it's partly cuz she was finally hungry, but also partly because the nice lady in our local dog shop told me to try canned Tripe.  It smells really bad, but she honestly licked her bowl so clean that I think she thought if she kept licking more might appear.  I was about to order the magic biscuits... which I will probably still do.  Celebration here!

Thanks for all the good laughs and support - this group is the best! kiss

Hugs,

Holly, Zuzu and Susan

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Maybe our "Wonderful Women (and men !) of a Certain Age"  - be that looking up the hill at 50, creeping up on 50, thumbing their noses at 50, been-there-done-that and moving on past 50 - should plan a "meet and greet" somewhere, sometime?

Hard to do, I know - with sick dogs - or dogs we don't want to leave in the hands of others - but just a thought. I know that some of you already get together. It would be fun to meet up - like a Tripawds Convention. Maybe we could even get sponsors from some of the products - like the Ruff Wear crew?

What do you think?

do I have to fly?  as a member of the FDFP (Fuddy Duddy FIfty Pluser or maybe the FDSP...Fuddy DUddy Sixty Pluser...the parent group) group, I don't trust those newfangled machines....if it ever stops raining all of you can come HERE!!  to MY HOUSE!!  We will have to pitch tents in the backyard, but the dogs can all sleep insiide?  HOORAY that Holly ATE!!!  I was looking at canned tripe the other day wondering if I dared....or if it was one more thing to feed my garbage disposal (that musta gotten indigestion from all the pet food that has gone down because the guy fixing the dishwasher had to take IT apart TOO...the water was coming out of the top thingee on the sink...oops)  Maybe that is why the Mr. Rooter guy that was here for the annual scooped the dry dog food out of the sink and threw it away...hmm....does it swell up and stop up your disposal???

And only the magic biscuits that are the hypoallergenic ones work on Magic....sometimes.   The ones that look the same and are just labeled treats...he won't even get his saliva on them...and the Buddy peanut butter biscuits...HA...sears got got those (one more thing off the counter...now I have to give away all the dog food in the container that was a bust...about 30 little containers of Little Caesar stuff that I got right before he came home...worked for about three meals)  What we REALLY need is a SWAP meet!!  can you imagine look around your house.  How much stuff food and otherwise have you purchased that is sitting there cuz it didn't work or wouldn't go down or whatever....(we aren't counting the steps, those can be used in the future and remember someone is using mine right now)...I guess I have to count the ramp tho.....

That's why we started the Angel Exchange. But if you want cash for the stuff, I do like the idea of setting up an auction site. Let me talk to Admin Guy about that one.

Oh, this has been on our minds for a while.  The challenge is finding another 8 hours in the day to plan one, find sponsors, etc. If someone would like to take charge and help us plan it, we'd be all over it! Hint....hint...!

Now THAT is an excellent idea ! A SWAP meet. California is nice. Thanks for offering up your yard and home, Diane ! Hmmm.... I've never travelled with my dog across "the" border.... particularly a radio-active dog. This needs more thought. As does the name of our new group....

Way to go HOLLY ! Extra treats for everyone  !

And now.... it is a gorgeous day here in Northern Alberta. I have a new (cheap !!) camcorder - and even though I would MUCH, MUCH rather be hiding in my bed - I am going to go out with Sophie's dog-walking group and film her in her Chariot, and swimming in the river. Tomorrow she goes for xrays and ultrasound to see how the lung growths are doing - followed by (if appropriate) her 3rd chemo treatment. Today we enjoy the sunshine. Everything else can wait.

Later y'all !

laughing Since we are so far off topic here as it is, I figured I might as well share the video from Jerry's tour of the Trinity Test Site – YouTube pulled the Atomic Dog soundtrack, geiger counters and all, but you can still see how fun it can be to travel with a "radio-active" dog!

I LOOOOVVVWEEEE Jerry VIdeos...I love Wyatt videos too...I love ALL THE VIDEOS...

I want that water thingee....I am currently (like yesterday when we met Ruthie) carrying BOTTLES of water in a carry thing if we are going to be around other dogs because I seem to be the person with the water...and a little tiny itsy bitsy travelling cup for people...I always popped it in my pocket to get drinks at water fountains and such (people don't like to see your dog drinking out of the fountain...like I could get Magic to jump up and do that...HA HA HA HA)  But that contraption is really cool...is it on here somewhere???  It looks like a self contained unit with a decent amt of water in it?  I could always carry that with a strap...Bob made me one that had a long strap adapted to a bigger bottle, but that is all contained with the little cup...I like that.

Great video...

(off topic?  wait...what WAS the topic...OH YEAH...Magic back from the vet...youknow?  He prefers this off topic banter to the original reason for posting!  and so do I...bad poster bad poster...)

Thanks, that was very cool. Jerry - the desert dog !

A convention would be great ... depends what happens in the way of an actual paying job in the next couple of months, Rene and Jim .... because I really do (seriously) have to find a way to support my son and I, or we will be living on the street. If I'm up to helping organize something like this - I'd definitely be interested.

Diane - that's not a SWAP that's a SCAM !  cool sheesh

After our outing this morning (after I FINALLY get dressed) we have our massages (boy is MY body ready...Magic could probably care less)...since there was a wet spot he was laying in at about 4:30 this morning, I used the newly purchased foamy "dry" shampoo cuz I thought massage lady might not appreciate massaging pee fur...I don't mind, but it's my dog's pee not someone elses!!!

THEN, I shall peruse my next purchases..er, I shall look over the options (yeah, right....new water bottles are probably almost on the way...and of course I won't be able to make up my mind...so there will be a few of THOSE in our "freebie meet")
