I'm sorry about that news - K is such a beauty, Ajax has had a crush since she first appeared here.
We just finished 3 months of Palladia. We don't really know if it helped, as the diagnosis was a bit more optimistic and the tumor had already been taken out. I do have some input, though:
Ajax had NO stomach/gastrointestinal trouble with the chemo or any other medicine. 1 day on the Palladia and he was beginning to have issues - nothing serious, just unusual for him. Our oncologist said that with Palladia, it is best to get on top of any issues right away, and prescribed Tylan. It is a powder, we mix in in applesauce. Ajax is 75lbs 9 year old Lab, she prescribed 1/2 teaspoon powder daily. It worked immediately and there have been no problems since. So hopefully if you have any troubles, that is an idea. Other than that, the Palladia did not cause any problems, and that one was easily remedied.
Good luck - Ajax sends Lab love.
ps I just read above "we don't know if it helped" - Ajax is fine, we just don't know if it was the surgery, the traditional chemo or the Palladia that did it.
Thanks Ajax, for the advice about the Tylan powder. So far, K hasn't had problems with it but she's had only one dose so far. I am so happy that you are doing so very well!!!! It sounds as if Ajax is a long term survivor of this disease - an inspiration for all of us!
I also just read the quote by Tai "When you start missing what isn't gone, you lose what's left.". That is wonderful advice that I will keep in my thoughts all the time.
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
