Levi's Surgery was Friday. I am glad that we had him spend two nights at the Vet. Our Veterinarian said he is much better today than yesterday. His incision area is pretty frightening to look at but I can tell he is going to handle this well. I started him back on his K9 Critical Care Supplements and he ate breakfast this morning. Things are looking good. Now we can focus on beating the rest of the Cancer. Bring on the Chemo! We are feeling positive here!
Levi was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma 7-7-11
Ampuversary 10-14-11
Lung Mets Discovered 1-4-12. Chemo seemed to not be working so we switched to Artemisinin and other supplements. In May, Levi developed a sinus infection and started having seizures. The cancer had moved to his brain. We let him go 6-26-12.
Yay Levi!!! Glad to hear he's back home and doing well. Hopefully he will sail right through recovery. Don't be alarmed if he "crashes" after a couple of days. The meds can sometimes mess with their head, but after a couple of weeks they start feeling back to normal.
Yes, the incision can be frightening. We kept a t-shirt on Bo (he was a front amp) mostly to keep me from crying. But, it also helped keep the incision clean and keep him from scratching.
It's great that you are so positive!! Levi will follow your lead. If you are positive and calm, he will be too. I can't wait to hear more updates. Post some pictures when you can; we are all suckers for pictures around here!

Hooray for Levi! He sounds like a trooper.
We also did the tshirt thing with Abby, especially because she had a drain in and it was the easiest way to keep her from dripping everywhere.
I think you had asked about eventually running with him again, right? It might be possible... We run with Abby on Sundays - but it's at the bay so she can stay cool in the water and the surface is soft for her. I think you mentioned trail running. He might be able to do that eventually, if the weather is nice and cool. Of course, you'll have to build up to that, but just wanted to let you know we do run with Abby. She's so fast, she runs ahead of us (it's a HUGE off leash beach/bay that we take her to) and then she stops and rests and waits for us to catch up. (When people comment at the bay about her missing leg, I usually say "yeah, she's down a leg, but I still can't keep up with her!")
Hang in there and be sure to come here with any questions during this next 2 weeks. We've all been there!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Good to hear that he's doing well! Meghan is right, positive energy goes a long way, so keep up the great work.

Yippppy! Skippppy! Way to show 'em Levi!
What a terrific way to start out! Pawsitive Energy all around!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
glad levi is doing so well - home is for healing!!! we say 'ditto' to what the other members say about rough days during the recovery period. the pain meds make them pant, and act spacy..can be scary if you're not prepared for that side effect.
charon & gayle
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
How do i post a picture? I'll put a few on tonight.
I think the hardest thing is going to be keeping him still…

Glad to hear Abby is running! I think Levi will too on trails just not too far. Time will tell.
I've got a little bit of "what the hell did I do" tonight. I know it will pass...Time for Wine.

What a cutie!
Wine is a good idea.
His incision looks great! I don't think Abby's looked that good until about at least a week in.

You might get that 'what the hell did I do' feeling occasionally during the recovery period.... but it will go away forever when Levi is recovered from the surgery and gets back to himself!
