My sweet Charlie...bless his heart. He's had a go of it for the last three weeks. Today is our three week ampusersary. He is getting stronger each day. His abscess is healing and still a little bit of ooze. Small bandage on it, not the big diaper thing they had on him the last ten days. Now with the bandages off his legs and amputated leg, I can see the scare from the staples. on the every end of the scare, towards his behind, there is a knot. Is that normal?? Do I need to go the vet yet again???

First of all......YAAAAAAAAAY FOR CHARLIE'S THREE WEEK AMPUVERSARY!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Goodness knows this little feisty cutie pie has had his challenges! He just keeps on keeping on like the Energizer Bunny Dawg!!

I'm no vet, but it's not unusual for scar tissue to form, or an extra lump of skin that sort of forms a "bump" because of the way it was stitched....make sense?

So glad to hear the abcess is clearing up!!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Scar? Knot? Can you explain or provide a picture? Have the stitches been removed?

Swelling or a seroma are normal, and the skin can indeed form in an odd shapes sometimes depending upon the sutures. Jerry ended up with an extra nipple! Now a knot in the suture thread would be perfectly normal.

If that's what it is, but stitches were already "removed" they may have just missed one. IF that is the case: We are not vets and will not advise you to remove it yourself, but that is usually very simple to do...just sayin'. big-blink

YAY!! Sally...you were right. I called the dr and the vet is 45 minutes away. He asked me to send a photo, which I did. He called me back immediately and told me that he had left muscle there during the amputation because he needed muscle to stitch to. RELIEF!

So he's having a great day. He is so happy not to have the diaper on. He's barking when people come in. Eating his regular food and he jumped off the couch! YAY!! Thank you so much! This forum is awesome!

Sounds like a very good day! Isn't that vet input such a relief? Very cool your vet called you back right away, what a gem!
