Oh boy... so sorry you are going through this. Another vet... another clinic... soon. Ditto to all of the above, double ditto! Do you have any other animal hospitals in your area? They will likely want to see him first, and you can have them call your current vet for copies of the labwork so they don't have to redo/re charge for it but he needs pain meds. The ones Donna mentioned are most commonly used across the board. Your boy is not too old for pain meds... omd.
Good luck, please let us know how you make out!!

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)
Thanks everyone for your support!! I will keep pushing for meds and see what happens. I am actually becoming pleasantly surprised at Draco’s progress. I’m almost not needing the sling to prop him , he’s practically running (trying to chase the neighbors cat 🐈 😂😂😂). He’s rolling around in the grass and so lively this morning.
I am using essential oils as an alternative for his lack of pain meds and to assist in the healing, so maybe that’s helping.
Fantastic !!!
SO glad to hear how well your boy is doing 👏🏽👏🏽 running and rolling around in the grass, no less !
But be careful and keep a good eye on his activity levels as it is still early days...
Sending hugs and cuddles 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

So, ask your vet if he would take Motrin if he had his leg cut off? What? He wouldn't? huh! Imagine that!So then he needs to get up-to-date with the standard of care!!! Murphy's surgery was in 2013 - almost 6 years ago - and he was sent home on Tramadol (a narcotic), Rimadyl (and NSAID similar to Meloxicam), and Gabapentin - the go-to drug for nerve pain.
Donna
LOL that was pawesome. Love you, lady! Spot-on insight from a medical professional, thank you.

So he prescribed him tramadol and gabapentin along with his antibiotic and meloxicam. So my next concern is, should he be wearing a cone to prevent him from licking?
Yes, you need to have a cone on or the incision covered to prevent licking and possibly infection not to mention the removal of stitches or staples. I have read some rear leg amps can use boxer shorts with the tail thru the fly. I dont have experince to share on that.
I'm sure certain others will advise you as well. You do not want Draco anywhere near that incision. Just wanted to answer your question before things go wrong, cone or cover the incision yes!
Hugs,
Holly & Purrkins❤️
I wish I could figure out How to post a picture on here. But it looks like his incision in one spot is opening up pretty bad. I went and got him a cone and put it on him and he freaked out and jumped all over the place and then selling busted how to post a picture on here. But it looks like his incision in one spot is opening up pretty bad. I went and got him a cone and put it on him and he freaked out and ended up falling over on the incision.
I took a picture of his incision opening up to the vet and showed him and he said it will be fine. I just feel like I need to get a different vet to come do a home visit possibly. Because it doesn’t seem like his incision that. Shouldn’t it be completely closed?
