We're happy to report that Jackson got his second dose of carbo today! His WBCs were in the normal-to-normal/high range. Our onco was VERY happy! So were we! She felt him all around, listening to things, poking things, and feeling deep in his abs - he's healthy as can be (with an "athletic heart" no less)! He gained 0.2kg, so <<<<1lb. We're happy about that too.
Some notes: 1) She doesn't expect him to respond differently to each chemo. Pretty much how he did for the last one is how we can expect him to handle the next few. 2) We went home with more Zenequin, his antibiotic. That probably helped his WBC count a lot. It's every day for 10d, starting tomorrow. 3) At his next appt we do chest xrays (holy cow, I'm already so nervous about those!) and talk about starting metronomic therapy. That surprised me. I figured metronomics wouldn't start, if we wanted to, until after IV chemo and/or after lung mets. I'm intrigued to hear more and get a cost estimate (that will be emailed to me soon, so I can post that info too). If his lungs are still clear, we go forth with the 3rd carbo. If not, I guess we rethink things - try another IV chemo drug? Stop IV chemo? We'll see (and in the meantime, I'm going to work REALLY hard to not think about all the possibilities). 4) In the waiting area was a 4-footed, 11 year old lab with osteo in his rear ankle. You can see the tumor, but I guess it hasn't grown in the year. He'd been going there for more than a year, getting IV chemo, radiation, and now metronomics . He's doing great! It's always nice to see treatments work out well and have everyone happy. The success of that lab makes me feel good about the care and facility Jackson goes to.
We're wicked happy over here! I expect Jackson to be sleepy for the next ~5 days, but come back to life by the end of next week.
OH! And he did wear his blue Tripawds bandana ! We're harnessing all the power from eastern, western, and superstition possible.
Go Team Tres-J!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Yay for Jackson, he's a super dog! You are a super mom for being so diligent in his care. I'm glad things are going so well:)
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Keep up the good work, Tres-J!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Happy news! It's nice to have a committed vet, a happy dog, a grateful dog mama. Of course you will try not to obsess over upcoming x-rays, and of course you will...a little. You're human. But we can talk you off the ledge.
Sounds like the perfect way to start a weekend! A party here tonight in Jackson's honor. I hope he approves of burgers, french fries and red wine.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Oh, yeah, Shari! Your party menu passes muster. Drink up! Cheers.

You've got the POWER, Jackson! Woo hoo!
That's so terrific that you have such a forward-thinking oncology team. The newest way to approach metronomics is to do it during chemo instead of waiting so it sounds like your onco docs are really on top of things.
Congrats! I hope the next few days are uneventful and Jackson sails through the side effect window. Keep us posted.

He's great! In fact, he's playing with his squeeker now - jamming it into the floor, tables, legs, and begging for fetch. Um, OK! No change in his interest for food. More the merrier!

Thank you, all, for your enthusiasm and support! Gotta love you all! I'm happy to report that it appears this last dose of chemo isn't phasing him at all. He really wasn't sleepy, or at least noticeably sleepy. So either he's doing well, or they take him into the back and inject saline - and charge us for it.
