Bandit is doing well after having his rear leg amputated. He is doing the metronomics chemo therapy. His regular vet did blood work on him last week. She noticed that his red blood cell count was a biut low. She said this could be a sign of an ulcer. She suggested changing from Pepcid to Prilosec and giving him iron supplements. Has anyone encountered this  before?

First of all, thank you for being such caring grandparents for Bandit. His quality of live has been extended and you clearly are surrounding him with love and the joys of being spoiled:-)

Ave not had any experience with iron pills. Do you have any reason to ask for a second blood test? My Happy Hannah had one a few weeks ago that showed low platelets....and vet thought it may have been a "false" reading and second test a week later showed everything was normal. S Bandit eating, drinking well? All other blood work good? Did you ever decide to switch vets and go with the one you use?

It sounds like Bandit is feeling step g and recovering nicely from the surgery itself? Bandit is so lucky you are his gramps:-) :-)

You can go to the search "block" and type in Prilosec as I know there was a post on that just the other day.

The very, very, very best to you and Bandit! Bandit is a fighter, doesn't know he's sick and is just enjoying the thrill of being happy and loved:-)

Thanks for being there for him and know that we are here for you!
