Buyer beware.... My recent  insurance claim to ASPCA pet insurance for my beloved dog's amputation has been denied. They are claiming cancer is a preexisting condition. His limping staring months ago during a prior period even though I've had the insurance over 2years & never put a claim in... was for back up. I do understand there are better insurance co's out there who don't do this to people in dire need to help their pets continue a quality care...

Please shop around and compare, I assumed the name alone would speak for it self but  it doesn't seem to be the case... I plan on contacting the state attorney general. I consider this to be fraud.... at least refund my money!!!

ASPCA? As in the Society for the Prevention to Cruelty to Animals?

OMG we are stunned to hear this, this is awful. Is there any way to appeal it? We are so sorry Kim, and hope you have some way to fight their stupid stupid decision.

Yes, the ASPCA ins co ..... i am not the only one complaining http://the-hart.....21870.html  they won't cover someone else's arthritic dog. I have a total of 5 claims all denied!!!  There should be some sort of rating system for the pet insurance co's!!! I have the illness option !! I consider cancer an illness. Guess my next step is contacting an attorney!!! Total rip off....

They suck!!!!
KIM&BUSTER

PS they hide behind loop holes!!!  Did i mention they suck?? I will appeal .. i have a mountain of paperwork to fax. They have only added insult to injury!!!  so much for a reputable co!

Kim, am with you there. Lalla was denied private pet insurance as she was tagged as a chronic patient by the insurance company. Unfortunately there was no one to apply here as well, there is just no one to apply to here. As well as your State Attorny General, I suggest you contact the Morris Foundation:

10200 East Girard Ave. B430

Denver, CO 80231

303-790-2345

800-243-2345 toll-free

and contact the North American Pet Health Insurance Association at http://naphia.org/

Thanks ... I was really depending on being reimbursed. I still owe the hospital $$ and  used up just about all of my savings to cover his treatment. Not to mention he desperately needs a chest X-ray & I wanted to get his acupuncture treatment started to help deal with his neck & spine pain resulting from the amputation. They took my $$ for 2 years!!!  I would be happy with a refund at this point since this is the first claim ever submitted!!! I am really upset and feel taken advantage of !!! False peace of mind!!

That's just ridiculous.  They could say that ANY condition is pre-exisiting so what is the point of them taking your money each month?

I hope you manage to get it sorted out and that they will pay up.

Any excuse not to pay!!!!

I looked at the "pissed consumer" site and ASPCA pet insurance is one of the advertisers!! Too ironic. Do you have a consumer help org. associated with any of your local TV stations? Here in St. Louis, the Fox network has a group called Contact 2. It is staffed by volunteers and they do a great job of helping consumers with problems and getting them to the right places for help. I would look into it. They have attorneys that volunteer too, so they would know the rules. This is just ridiculous.

I have to say that I have VPI and I have argued with them over claims a few times. Since I had the cancer rider on Tasha's policy, they paid for  almost the whole amputation. But now, they will pay for the chemo drugs and administration, but none of the lab tests that must be done so the chemo can be given.

This pre-existing condition thing by ASPCA is a total scam on their part. I would keep calling and complaining and appealing while you are looking into other options.

Thieves!!!

Would your vet be willing to give them proof that there was no cancer diag yet at the time of renewal?

I hope you can make them pay.

Good Luck.

I've heard VPI and Pet Plan have covered other dogs with cancer...hind sight is 20/20..I'll look into the consumer complaint locally. BTW I did give all his records and it states by the DR's it was inflammation initially...even the biopsy states it was a swelling this is total BS..
Thanks for the support!!!

Please don't use the ASPCA pet ins it doesn't help our beloved pets that get cancer... It's a total disgrace  to their name!!!

Kim, my pawrents and I would like to blog about your situation and get it out there on the web that ASPCA insurance is doing this.

If you don't mind, can you please email us copies of anything you think might help us write about it (copies of the denial letter, doc report, etc.?). Of course, scratch out any personal information there, but if you email it to us, we'll be sure to write in more detail about this bad, bad way they are treating cancer patients. Thanks!

No problem Jer, It would be easier for me to fax it to you.... I'm unable to scan unless i go to the library... I have everything to document this scam. Don't know how these people sleep at night. BTW this is the tumor.... and the leg that was removed to get rid of the cancer. I would of pick up a different ins co if i knew how they treated their customers!! I'm thinking of blogging this on myspace where i have over 300 friends including the ASPCA i can't believe they would endorse this Hartford group. At least if they refund my money I could pay off his balance at hospital. Buster is like a son to me. Thanks for being a friend, will send the info tmrw

I would definitely call the local investigative news (or at least threaten the company with that to start with). The company probably would not want the negative publicity so they may do right by you and Buster.I thought about pet insurance, but after reading over all the fine print I don't think they are worth much. So many of them have clauses about not covering genetic traits (like hip dysplasia) or chronic illnesses. You really have to read those very carefully to know what you are getting.I hope they come to their senses and do the right thing for you!
