If I were more motivated, I might distribute a little survey each of us could complete to summarize how and what we did post-amp and post-chemo. We must have a larger sample of tripawds, however biased our group might be, due to bone cancer here than most vets will ever see.

Tazzie, that is a GREAT idea! Thank you for bringing that up, we would love to get this going on! Oooh, this is exciting! We're motivated to do it if we can get a tiny bit of help from everyone . . . .

Jim's idea is this: How about we use a new Forum thread to compile a load of questions people think need to be asked. Then Jim, the uber geek, will compile them into an online form everyone can fill out. We'll take the responses and compile them into some useful data. And we'll run the survey questions periodically, say, quarterly or something like that, to catch newcomers.

How about this: would you like to start a new thread in "Tips and Resources," to get this started? Maybe call it "Tripawd Treatment Survey Questions to Ask" or something like that. You could start it by jotting down the questions you want to see answered. Then others can add theirs, it'll just take a second to get some good questions from people.

When we have a good compilation going, we'll start work on creating the online survey.

What do you think?

yep - it won't be too hard to write a few questions. I was toying with the idea, but it would be great if you are inclined to pull it together. i was also thinking a summary of case histories, showing the range of responses (from frisbee catching to complete immobility) might be useful. Will mull it over some more. It would be useful for vets to have more information on what really happens.

Tazzie is not doing well today - I am very worried so probably not responding to your comments very well right now. He has been lying outside all morning and actually growled when i tried to coax him to move - it takes a lot of pain to get him to react in any way. He did, eat, but also vomited (but no sign of blood or anything bad - just had eaten some grass).

Contrary to the impression you all have been getting, Tazzie is the ULTIMATE cuddles dog. He leans against every human he meets at the dog park, and gets attention from absolutely everyone.

I stopped the tramadol yesterday. Now I'd like to give him one - but any harm in that? I can't stand these downs. You never know.

To top things off, the "local vet" (the one who works only 1 hr away as opposed to the 3 hr vet) went on holidays today! The person filling in, who we like, should phone back. I don't think she can exactly diagnose by phone in this case.

Love the idea of a survey.  It would have been very helpful when Emily was first post-op.

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

Cool! If you can help us by posting questions you would like answered by others, that would be great! Thanks.

I'm going to start Sunny on chemo Tuesday.  I'm going back to my regular vet rather than the oncologist because it's about 1/3 the cost.  My vet was very interested to hear about this website and I suspect will check it out and recommend it.  Y'all have been GREAT!  It's nice to have the support, education, information, etc!

Sunny was a little too active when first got home and then very tired.  I tell pepople it's like anyone else with surgery - good days and bad days!

All tripawds overdo it at first. Try to keep Sunny calm and let your vet know we'd be happy to have him/her participate in the Ask A Vet discussion forum, or perhaps a scheduled live chat!
