Hi again,

Tess commenced chemotherapy two weeks ago, with the noticed side effects of a little nausea, a small skin infection and an infected eye, all which are being treated. Her blood tests on the weekend came back ok. Before Osteosarcoma, Tess was generally a happy dog and didn't get upset for no apparent reason, and even after amputation she was still gentle. Since starting chemo she has shown a significant increase in aggression towards other dogs (and possibly the people leading them). As she is a Rottweiler, her grumpy moments with deep woofing, lunging towards people and chasing little dogs is quite scary to those who don't know her. She hasn't shown any aggression towards myself or my son, even when we have to hold her to put her eye drops in.

Has anyone seen anything similar? Is she becoming more defensive of us, her pack, and our territory? Could it be frustration at her constant health issues and people trying to treat her, or being inside so much and unable to run around? Or do you think it is purely chemical?

Is there a calming medication that might help (even though I am over dog medications)? What else can I do?

Lisa.

btw. I'm in Melbourne Australia and it's freezing right now!

Hi Lisa,

Glad things are going well overall!

Oftentimes when a Tripawd is going through so much, that kind of behavior is a pain indicator. Is she showing any other signs of being uncomfortable? Pacing at night? Panting? Inability to get comfortable? Not wanting to do any kind of physical activity? That's where I would begin trying to figure this out. Calming supplements like these can help when she's out and about but it won't help if pain is the underlying issue.
