Thanks again, everyone! She seems to be feeling a bit better today with a little less shaking/shivering. She's adamantly refusing to leave the bedroom and her pen, though, even to go potty. My husband carries her out when he gets home from work and she's okay with that, but insists on coming in (and up the 2 steps into the house from the yard) all by herself. I think she's upset that she's not super independent at the moment. Plus, I think (and she'd kill me for saying this!!) but I think she's missing being harassed with love from her brother. Normally, Rico is obsessive with kisses and licks, which annoy her, but she encourages it when he doesn't do it. Well, he knows she's hurting, so he's stayed nearby, but gives her space. He'll give her one lick then move away. I think she misses it. I'm sure they'll get back to normal once she's more stable, though.

Bet she does, Tasha, bet she does !

Funny how some of our babies are normally "tolerating" each other on a daily basis but the truth is they are drama queens and in reality they totally adore their brothers and sisters 😝

It reminds me of Eli and Mona, Kerren kittie cats who also "don't" get along so well but during vet visits truth comes out 😆

Give your beautiful Ginger tummy rubs from me and big hugs to your lovely self 💞💞🐾🐶😘

How is Ginger doing?  We didn't keep our dogs separated when Murphy was recovering, they just seemed to know to keep their own space.  If the tramadol & Rimadyl aren't holding her pain enough (panting/shivering are signs of pain), then I would talk to the vet about adding in Gabapentin - it works on nerve pain & is very helpful for our dogs.

Don't worry about the snow - we live in Michigan and I swear, Murphy does better in the snow!  I think it's because he knows that when he falls, he has some cushioning lol.  Of course, he's always loved it, so that helps.  Do watch out for the ice, though.  Our first winter I felt like the worst mom in the world when Murphy slipped on the ice on our deck sad  We never salt it since it's wood, and it had been sunny so had melted the top layer of snow during the day, so when the temps dropped after sundown, it all became one big icy mess.  I felt horrible!  He was sore the next day, so a Rimadyl helped, but no permanent injury.  Now we're much more careful to make sure that the path is cleared for them and to break up the ice if we have to.

Donna

ps - thank you for your service!

Thank you! She's doing okay. She had a rough day yesterday where she tumbled in the grass when heading to potty, but she landed on her side where the staples are and couldn't get back up on her own. Poor girl looked like a turtle stuck on its back. I helped her up and she went potty then back to bed, but she seems more insecure on her feet since that happened. She really, really did not want to go out this morning, but she knew she had to, and did okay. She seems to be a little weaker in her back legs today, though. She's still getting lots of downtime in her room.

We normally wouldn't keep them separated, but Rico is OBSESSED with her. It was a definite struggle when he was a puppy, because he would insist on giving her lots of kisses on her face and she was get so irritated. He's calmed down a ton, but still get overly lovey with her. He's been so patient though and giving her lots of space.

That's a great tip about the ice! Your poor boy. Its so sad when they hurt! Our back step was icy this morning. I may cut up an old yoga mat to put down on the steps before she heads out. We only have 2 steps, and we got her a ramp so she wouldn't have to use them, but she insists on the steps and would not step foot on the ramp. When we tried to make her use it, she tried to jump off back onto the steps.whatever She doesn't do anything the easy way!

Yeah, a lot of dogs refuse to do the ramps lol.  It takes some training.  It seems so much easier to us, but for some reason they just don't want to do them!

Murphy face-plants once in awhile, but he just gets back up & keeps running...we usually just laugh at him.  Of course he's much further out from surgery than Ginger is.  Try some gentle massage down her back for her.  Some of her muscles might be tight from the different way that she's walking now.
