Whaaaat???
That nothing a few years ago most of them it is now. I do know we have a member, maybe two, Who is using it for their vet suggestion.
First of all, I have no idea what I was TRYING to type. Between my ineptness at typing, auto correct and whatever else is going on...I "think" I was trying to .say:
**Metronomics used to be suggested by Oncos as a treatment plan for mets up until somewhat recently. Studies didn't seem to show it was as effective as once thought. One or two members here are currently are using it per their Oncologist's protocol **
Now, as far as posting pics, for now do you just want to send me some and I'll post for you for now? Regretably someone else will have to tell you how to do the media thing for your blog. I have a very old Samsung tavlet and it doesn't show the same "prompts" as a computer.
Atlas really has had his share of challenges. Then to do deal with the osteo, amp etc. He's clear a Warrior though and we are definitely cheering for him!
I'm gonna PM you now with me email. Feel free to use ot for me to post some pics for you, or short video.
Hugs

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I've been watching the "Dr Sue Cancer Vet" videos on Youtube; is that Dr. Sue Ettinger?
PS.....yes, that's who I was referencing.
You might also check out The Dog Cancer Survival Guide. It was written by Dr Ettinger and Dr Dressler. She focuses more on the Western and he focuses more on the Eastern, the alternative, holistic, etc. It's a good mix of both approaches. .

Thank you, Sally. I sent you a few pictures, thank you for posting them for me.
Yes, poor Atlas has had so many challenges in his life. All throughout the surgeries/TPLOs we were just hoping to restore his legs so he could run again, as he loved to run as a pup. I have one picture of him running with such joy and I wanted him to experience that again, but it doesn't look like it will be in the cards now. Part of me fears the cancer sprang forth from the TPLO, and that just crushes me because we didn't think we had any other option but to do the surgeries. I sure hope we get some sort of good news on Tuesday.
He has started losing strength in his remaining back leg, so I'm hoping it's just overuse and not cancer starting in that leg now. 🙁 Some people on the FB page said it can be common for that to happen, or maybe it is spondylosis due to his new movement pattern, but we will see what the vet specialist thinks.
Happy New Year to you all, and thanks for the support. <3
Okay, get ready to fall in love .👍 Drum roll please.🥁🥁.introducing the stunningly handsome Atlas!!!

Awwwww what a happy, handsome boy! Thank you for sharing these Sally.
Tuesday can't come soon enough. Stay strong, and don't jump too far ahead. Speculating doesn't help as you know. All you can do is wait for the expert opinion to happen, but that is so hard! I hope you get some good news. Keep us posted OK?
Thanks for posting those, Sally!
Thank you Jerry, I am nervous for tomorrow but we will see how it goes. I'll update when I know more. This cancer diagnosis couldn't have come at a worse time for our family. I am halfway through pregnancy with our second baby, but thankfully all checkups for that have been great so far.
Talk soon,
Amanda

Hi Atlas's Mom, What great pictures! Such a sweet puppy. I hope tomorrow goes well.
Just to answer your questions, we discovered the tumor on Memorial Day weekend, amputation on June 15, first vaccine shot on July 2, I think, had the booster six weeks later. Couldn't have carboplatin, first the shortage and then "he would take a whole bottle and we could treat three dogs with that" (The OSU residents tend to stick to their script but I am sure that wasn't supposed to be on it!! ) I told OSU not to substitute doxyrubin because his full brother died of heart issues in June. So the 4-6 dose chemo method was not available to him.
He was visible met free according to his last CT scan in late October. He's had about one month's worth of cytoxan (Metronomic) spaced out over Oct/Nov, but the blood count in his urine was still up slightly so they put him on a "chemo holiday" and he's supposed to have another blood test to see if he is tolerating cytoxan.
Anyway, he's full of energy and personality, has coped with 3 legs really well. He was fine with all this medical attention for a long time because he loves meeting people and going for trips in the car, but lately he has had enough of hanging around clinics. The purpose of metronomic therapy is to contain the mets, not eliminate them, so if it's causing too much discomfort (cystitis), more medication, more checkups I can't see the point for Nicholas. If all is ok, we'll continue. So every dog's story is different....
A rehab specialist is a great help though no matter what course you take. We see one every two weeks and we look very carefully at how he is doing and make little changes to improve his life. He gets a good massage, which relaxes all those rearranged muscles that have to handle the weight of a giant dog. Nicky loves her.
@suzanne, thanks for sharing Nicky’s treatment so far. Do you think the vaccine is the reason for his successful checkups? Or the cytoxan? That’s great he has been met-free without heavy duty chemo!
@Sally, yes we did! It was a long drive/day, but the big news was the oncologist said she didn’t see lung mets and my regular vet may have confused overlaying veins for small tumors! That was exciting, but the “stats” keep discouraging me. She said with 5 rounds of carboplatin, he has a 40% chance of making it to 1 year, and 20% to 2 years. Trying to ignore those numbers and take your advice. He is a unique individual and any time we do get is a bonus. 💜
the oncologist said she didn’t see lung mets
YAAAAAAY!!! Spectacular news!!!!
For now. just take time to absorb the good update and celebrate!!!
You dont have to decide on chemo or not right now. I know you will hear this from everyone here, but statistics just don't mean that much around here. And it goes both ways ....some dogs get more than what's projected, some less. Nobody can put a timeframe on Atlas's butt. He's his own Warrior self!!
Now go give Atlas a big hug!! This is a day for celebration!

Wonderful news! Good for Atlas..
Since we couldn't follow the Yale vaccine protocol of standard of care plus vaccine who knows? Either the vaccine helped, or Nick is just a lucky one, both I would guess. I think arranging his life so he continued to have lots of friends to love and jobs to take charge of (coyotes) and so he could get around on his own (we built him some giant stairs), lots of music too, things like that help them to want to live.
I don't think the chemo could be responsible since we didn't start it until October and I halved the dosage.
Thank you both! We actually did start chemo, carboplatin. He is tolerating it well so far, just a tinge of nausea that the Cerenia seems to be taking care of. We have 4 more treatments scheduled 3 weeks apart. We're really hoping he will be one of the lucky ones!
Suzanne, that is so amazing about your Nicky. I really do wish we could try the Yale vaccine. I messaged Dr. Marula on FB but he hasn't responded; probably gets flooded with messages. I was just asking if I could opt out of the study and pay to have it shipped to my local vet. Apparently they used to ship it in prior trials, so I'm not sure why that wouldn't be an option now. 🙁
