Shelly is my 11 year-old shepherd that had her right front leg amputated November 2021 due to osteosarcoma.  She had no evidence of metastasis until her 6th and final Carboplatin infusion at Auburn University.  Although her lungs remained clear, biopsies of nodules on her spleen and liver showed sarcoma.  She was given 2-3 months to live, with the remaining chemotherapy options with a 10% chance of prolonging her life.  I have been researching immunotherapies, such as Elias Cancer Immunotherapy, and the canine osteosarcoma vaccine /live listeria vector (Elanco Animal Health).  If anyone has any information and points of contacts for any immunotherapies, I would greatly appreciate your sharing them with me.  I live near Birmingham, Alabama and can travel, but have to be home each evening as I am the sole caregiver for my almost 99 year-old mom. Thank You!

Hi ShellysMom, welcome! Your future posts won't need to wait for approval so post away!

I'm sorry that you got the bad news about the mets. Ugh! Our Jerry had osteosarcoma and we discovered lung mets 17 months out. I remember getting that bad news like it was yesterday.

Has your vet discussed any other therapies going going forward? I'm not familiar at all with this type of cancer spread. Can they remove the spleen in this case? Maybe zap her liver with stereotactic radiation therapy? As a vet school you may have more options than most private practice clients.

Yes we do have some information about immunotherapies here. I don't know how they would work with the situation that Shelly is in but it's worth asking the brilliant vets at Auburn to see if they're worth a try.

Keep us posted OK? And remember that Shelly doesn't know what the scans said, she's still the same ol' dog you love and she just wants to be happy with her favorite people. Try to stay strong!
