My Westie gets meloxicam occasionally too and I just squirt it down his throat with the syringe. That way I know he gets it in him.

Paula and Nitro (and Kodi the westie)

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Nice to meet another little Westie on this site!

Paula, I had read on a couple of sites that it's better to give smaller dogs Meloxicam on food instead of directly in their mouths.

Now that I look at the second site, though, I'm seeing that it refers to dogs under 5 pounds. Susie is definitely not under 5 pounds, even though she has lost weight since the surgery!

Mine was 15#...BEFORE the surgery! haha Who knows what she weighs now! (The veterinary student did say she lost a lot of weight while she was in the hospital--and I know she's lost weight since she got back home, since she'll hardly eat anything!)
