My doggie Aris underwent the amputation surgery last Thu, today is the 5th day...last night we went to the emergency, as she was fluid was coming out form the incision....we do not what happened...and finally it stops...normally how many days the fluid (with blood) will come out? I worried that will be infected ... and also influence other part of the incision...
Hi and welcome! Sorry you had to join us, what is the reason for Aris' amputation?
It sounds like she had a seroma . The link has an article you can check out but basically it is harmless fluid discharge that sometimes happens.
As long as it isn't 100% blood and mostly water / pink colored it's probably harmless. Keep an eye on it and if it feels warm, or has greenish or cloudy fluid let your vet know ASAP. Most times there is no infection.
You can try to help remaining fluid drain by applying a warm washcloth to the area a few times a day and minimizing her activity so she doesn't move around too much and cause more fluid build up.

Actually it has been 2 months that Aris broke her bone in early April. We brought her to emergency and put the splint on and then we go to see the general vet for changing splint. We do considered to give her a surgery but later the surgeon said Aris can recover by using splint just changing it every two weeks, and check every week her situation. So we gladly followed the guidance....but one time her splint does not change according to the time, and we brought her to the vet on Tuesday. At the end of the week, I started to smell bad smell from her splint....but it is quite late and then vet discover that her bone does not heal and a small hole appear on the wound....and then it gets more and more serious......many things....and then vet suggested to have amputation, we gather funds and hope to do bone grafting asap, but at the end...it is amputation...our hearts broken and very sorry about her...
Now, we hope she can recover very soon and have a new life...
These two days, her incision shows smaller amount of fluid, that is pink in color, not totally blood..
We gave her the sedation medicine and she sleeps very well and her reaction become very calm...

Uou and Aris have cert jave aome challenges, that's for sure. We often see amputation be the solution when a leg breaks, infections, take over, etc.
So, I know it's hard at first during recovery, but you will soon see her amputation as a positive outcome.
Let us know any questions you may have during recovery. The first week or two can be stressful (moreso for you than Aris). Take it slow and easy for now. Just short leashed potty breaks and then more rest. If you have hardwood floors put down non slip scatter rugs for traction .
What kind of pain meds is she on? Is she on an antibiotic? What is her "sedation" pill?
Drinking and peeing are import, but she may not have much of an appetite for a few days and she may not poop for a few days. No worries. As far as food, give her anyth yummy she'll eat to coat her tummy for the meds.
Keep an eye on the fluid and let the Vet know the progress .
She may take a few days to get mobile and get her balance. Again, slow and easy. No jumping ,no stairs (if possible)
Once rec is done you will be soooo pleased at how well Aris does as a tripawd!! That bum leg had to hurt and she will feel sooo good with it gone!!!

Oh wow you guys have been through so much! I'm really sorry. But at least Aris is back on track to heal and get on with life. You will soon be able to put this behind you.
The fluid you are describing does indeed sound like a seroma . Paws crossed that it's done draining. Sometimes it will keep draining a bit here and there, nothing to panic about unless you see it more bloody than watery.
What kind of dog is Aris? You gave her such a beautiful name!
