Well, we are adding a holistic vet to our team today. We have a 3:30 appointment with Dr. Bea in New Paltz, NY. After researching additional chemo drugs our oncologist could provide I decided to not do more chemo. None of the drugs are shown or even tested for hemangiosarcoma. The only one that was in a trial, Palladia, did not show positive results.
He is on metronomic chemo now 7 days a week, taking K9 Immunity Plus, in addition to a multi-vitamin. We are going to discuss what else we can add to try to slow down the growth of the lung nodule.
On the pawsitive side…. my little girl dog, Lady, is fine. She was limping and I panic'd and was sure she had cancer too. Thankfully it was muscle/joint and she is fine now…. although the vet did suggest Glucosamine/Chondrioton for her since her knees are cracking.
I will post later today with what suggestions Dr Bea has.
Joy & Champ (& Lady)
Sounds like a good plan Joy, let us know how the visit goes.
Glad to hear about Lady. Whew! You may want to check out Synflex for her, it did wonders for me.

Congrats on trying out the holistic route with Champ! Will be interested in the outcome of your appointment.

We're home... I'm not exactly sure how to feel yet...
She gave me a laundry list of herbs and supplements and suggested I stop feeding Honest Kitchen and go with a complete protein diet with supplements... Not sure how I feel about this...
I need to research the list she gave me:
- Blood's Palace
- Cell Advance 880 Antioxidant
- Carlson Omega 3
- Oncosupport
- GSC - glandular stress complex
- MCHC - bone meal
- Stem Enhance
She didn't feel artimisinan was appropriate for hemangiosarcoma. She also did not like the K9 Immunity Plus as well as the K9 Immunity and K9 Transfer with other Omega 3's (listed above)...
I really need to research all this a little more before I feel comfortable switching his diet completely...
I'll keep you posted what I find out.
Thanks.
Thank you for sharing this, the whole topic is overwhelming for me so I like to hear what other people are doing. Your research is impressive! I think I will check out the Synflex Jerry was on. Seems like a good idea, the altered gait is bound to be stressful on the body over time.
Best of luck to Champ (and Lady), sounds like they are getting the best of care from their mom.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! Some of those supplements I've never heard of before. Which Honest Kitchen product do you use? If I recall, you use Preference? If so, you could mix it 2:1...(meat 2, mix 1)...that would drop the carbs even more and what I do often for Maggie. Brings it down to roughly 10% carbs depending on what type of meat you use but this would be with ground beef.
Are some of the supplements chinese herbs? My quadpawd is being treated with chinese herbs for an autoimmune issue and shoulder injury.

Wow, pretty comprehensive, that's good! The nice thing about seeing a holistic doc is that you can get tailored nutrition advice. It's good to question things that make you uncomfortable though. Do what makes you and Champ feel the most comfortable I say. Keep us posted.
