Hi  all,

We had a great vacation in the mountains. It was hard, but I took it pretty easy and did not over do it. Since I didn't want to walk up the stairs at Lake Arrowhead village, I found out that I don't really like elevators! Being a tripawd can bring up some new and exciting situations. People are amazed and give funny looks when they see the three legged dog hopping around!

I started chemo today and so far so good.

Wish me luck,

Max

Welcome back, Max C.! Great to hear you had a relaxing vacation.

An elevator? OMG, I hate them too! Even before I became a tripawd, they really freak me out.

So glad the chemo is coming along and all is well. Keep us posted and let us know if we can help with any questions or whatever.

By the way, where are you getting your treatment? Good to know these things in case others in your area are also in need.

We had the surgery done at "Veterinary Surgical Specialists" in Tustin, Ca. They did a great job and we would recommend them highly. About 1000 yards away in the same complex is "Veterinary Cancer Group" who we also feel very comfortable with. It is expensive, but I feel I am in good hands!

By the way, how is your chemo treatment going Jerry? You are doing an oral version right? Is it shrinking the mass at all? I forgot to mention that I had another lung xray and still nothing visible so far.

Thanks for asking Max! So far so good ... Check out the blog post about my results after two months of Cytoxan chemotherpay – basically, the mets had ruduced in size by about 10%.

The doctor called that "Stable Disease" but we'd like to believe they're still shrinking. No x-rays planned for a while, and I'm not having any side effects, other than just being an Atomic Dog now!

BTW, we almost went to the Veterinary Cancer Group – they were recommended to us by Dr. Mazzi at County Line Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, but I was anxious to get back on the road so we headed to see Dr. Mullins at the Vet Cancer Care clinic in Santa Fe, NM. They've been great to me!

Oh yes I remember seeing that blog post a while back...

I also remember the doctor saying that chemo usually just slows things down - so a 10% reduction sounds really great! Let's hope they keep shrinking!

We are doing a relatively new combination of Carboplatin and Gencitabine (Gemzar) which has had some very good results according to our doctor. So far side effects have been pretty minimal. We will keep you posted.
