Hi there! Cosmo has been doing great he's coming up on his 2 months post amp date and has been getting around great! That was until Wednesday he slid on the floor and hit his hind leg on the fridge and has been off and on again putting weight on the leg. The last two days he's been not bearing any weight toppling over and crying in pain. We took him to vet no break or mets shown on leg X-ray but significant soft tissue swelling. But they noticed he had a 104 temp. So he also did not void for 24 hours they believe it's because he won't stand on his leg and can't assume the voiding position. They ran a Cbc and I'm awaiting results of that his last one which was done two weeks ago was great! But they are worried about low wbc count. How does this effect his chemo treatments because he was suppose to have round two on Thursday. And if we have to wait can waiting be detrimental to starving off the cancer and cause the mets to get him sooner!? And lastly has anyone dealt with soft tissue injuries and how long did this non weight bearing/ pain last for your pet!? AND anyone have problems with the urinating and not going for long periods of time!!?
COSMO!!! Adorable, precious.Cosmo!! So.sorry you are having owweees!
Of course I'm no vet and not giving vet advice. Here we go! So many little "annoyances" going on with this little fella'. Yes, a chemo treatment is often delayed for a week, or sometimes more, You want his fever down and wbc back up before doing the next round. So delays DO happen with no negative consequences.
I think the blood work will help pinpoint if there are any additional issues related to not peeing. So he has peed normally after his "boycott on peeing", correct? Makes sense that Cosmo just couldn't handle the "pee position" without causing his leg to hurt even more.
I know my four legger, Merry Myrtle, has had acouple of joint/muscle/tendon "issues". She was given Rimadyl and "told" to take it easy. Needless to say, it's a lot easier for a four legger to heal. In ner case It took awhile for the swelling to go down and the limping to stop. I think it will be easier to make a smaller dog take it easy so the healing shoukd be quicker.
This is just my perspective. I think we can all agree though that, this too shall pass and Cosmo WILL heal his leg and WILL get his fever down and WILL get on with his chemo and WILL do BRILLIANTLY well!!
Keep js posted and stay connected! And we would LOVE to see more pictures of this cutie!!
Love!
