Well, as nervous as I was about it...I thought the Oncologist we saw was fantastic and Henri started his first round of chemo. ( Doxorubicin )...
He was flirting with all the ladies at the Vet and soaking up all that love and attention! They say he is a HAM! : )
And they said they can tell he is one spoiled and loved boy!
I am worried but taking a deep breath that he will do good with this plan. He is supposed to have 5 treatments total so we have to see how he does this first round and go from there!
His heart looked good and he was given the green light for Chemo so we went for it!
They sent me home with meds just in case he gets sick. I also bought some ginger ( crystal form ) just in case as I heard that it can help an upset tummy.
Keeping our fingers and paws crossed!
Hugs!
Wendy and Henri
Henri is beautiful! Please keep us posted. I'm facing the same thing next week and am very anxious about it.
Jane-Cathy-Skyler
Skyler – 10 year old Golden Retriever. Diagnosed with Mast Cell Tumor on 2-26-10. Right rear leg amputated on 3-4-10. Crossed Rainbow Bridge on 6-11-10. Chloe – Joined her sister on 4-4-11, due to hemangiosarcoma. The beloved Golden Girls are now back together.
Oh that's wonderful to hear!
My Mom remembers that after our first oncologist visit, she was relieved too. She wondered why she was so scared all along, they were so good to me at the clinic. I tried to tell her not to be afraid, but you humans are like that!
Cheers for Henri! Keep us posted, and remember, one step at a time. Try not to worry!

I beg your pardon, Henri is not a HAM, he is simply personable.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

We're so glad everything is going well so far. We're keeping fingers and paws crossed that Henri does just great with chemo!
Lots of hugs,
Holly and Holly's mom
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Great to hear that Henri is doing well so far. My Mackenzie has already had her 5th treatment (carboplatin) and wasn't sure if she'd make it this far but she has with flying colors. We may be doing a 6th treatment next week if all of her bloodwork comes out ok. We all have had our worries about chemo so you're not alone. But many of us on this site can attest to the fact that it has helped. That's the key, taking it one treatment at a time. Good luck with all of this. We'll be keeping our paws crossed that everything works out ok for Henri! Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Doin' good Hammy Henri! You just keep putting mom at ease and everything is going to be just fine!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Henri is GORGEOUS - Tai is in love!! She sends lots of doggy kisses and hopes he feels okay after his chemo. She is going to her 4th of 5 treatments of Doxorubicin tomorrow so she feels they have something in common. Hope all goes well! Paws crossed.
Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.
Hi Wendy,
So happy to hear that Henri started his chemo... Keep us posted to how he's doing from day to day! Every dog seems to be so different with their reactions to the chemo... Of course I knew that Henri would be a ham, after all... he's a golden ... and how can you NOT love a golden once you look into those loving eyes!!!
I remember Jake's visits to the vet... they all loved him (even before his diagnosis)... and were so surprised (and happy) at how well he was doing after his surgery and then each time he came to visit after. So many of the techs and docs were crying the day we brought him in at the end... Even though my hubby and I were so devastated then... it did help us to know how much they all cared about him too...
Good luck with the chemo!!!
Big hugs and kisses to you and Henri!!!
Angel Jake's Mom
Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Wendy and Henri,
First it was being cast in the Internet Wasteland of Maui, then it was getting locked out twice from the site, so I hope you forgive us for being so very late to this posting. However, I see that you have been in good supportive hands so I am not sure why I worry.
It sounds like you have an excellent handle on the path forward and are prepared for what ever comes from the chemotherapy. As with so very much, each responds differently to the treatments. Most that I have read, appear to have almost no adverse reactions to the treatments, a very few have small drops in their blood count (which only delays the next treatment), a few have the nausea, and one (my Miss Cherry) lost all appetite due to the chemical taste that it left. At the moment, I cannot remember a case where these were not overcome with patience and perserverence. As with the amputation, you may have both up and down days, but working closely with your care team should handle everything well.
It is good that Henri gets along so very well with the medical team. The last thing in the world we want is to further stress Henri out, but that seams to be rather remote.
We will be pulling for Henri to make it through this part of the journey. Above all, remember to make it about the quality of Henri's life and keep on treating the spirit. As long as he enjoys his life, he will continue to fight with you.
