Hi,
We are almost two weeks post surgery and my Ruby girl has had a really strange thing happen. Things have been going fine but she did have an area of redness by her incision site. It looked more like she had red stain on her skin then it looked like an angry red. There was no broken skin there at all! Then boom it broke into a strange circle, raw flesh the size of a quarter! I took her in right away and they don't really know. They took a culture and said that their concern is that she is on an antibiotic that should have killed infection but this seemed to come from under the skin?!?! Her upper leg lymph nodes in that area, high up, came back free of cancer after the amputation so it looks like the cancer was contained in the lower portion of her leg and this spot is up very high. I'm super confused and feeling afraid. I really thought we were getting out of the woods and looking forward to life having some "normal".
Has anyone else experienced anything at all like this?
Thank you!
Sabrina and Ruby 🙂
Hi Sabrina,
I seem to recall someone with a cat who kept scratching and the site wouldn't heal. I don't know if it's similar but turned out it was a yeast infection with bacteria. Here is her post with the solution on Page 3: http://tripawds.....need-help/
If you aren't finding an answer then you might want to post your question in the "Ask a Vet" forum.

Hang in there Sabrina, it's gonna be OK. There are sometimes things that happen but they're almost always not as bad as our minds make them out to be. And don't forget to celebrate how well she IS doing otherwise, that is GREAT!
When your vet said they didn't know what it was, did they have a plan for next steps? Did they test for MRSA ?
Kerren thanks for sharing that link!

Do you have a picture? Is it oozing anything? Could she have licked there? It's good that they did a culture. If you are cleaning it with anything, use just water or saline, or boil water and let it cool.
