Bear is approaching 1 year of battling ostheo sarcoma. Despite some ups and downs, he is a very happy pup. After going 7 months without a reoccurrence, a tumor developed in the muscle of his amputation site. He was originally treated with Carboplatin. When the new tumor developed, it was treated with Doxorubicin and it tripled in size in 3 weeks. I insisted on going back on the Carboplantin and after one treatment the tumor shrank enough to remove it. On the day of surgery, a chest x-ray showed a tiny lung met and they refused to do the surgery. A change in chemo drugs was suggested and Bear started on Palladia on 1/7. The tumors have not grown. Now here is the weird part. His mouth (gums and roof of his mouth) are normally black. I noticed that the pigment has started turning pink. It appears the corners of his eyes are starting to change to pink too. Has anyone ever heard of this??? All of his blood tests are normal. He has had gastrointestinal upset from the Palladia, but both of my vets are not concerned because the color is pink. They both indicated it has never been reported. I even asked if it could be a result of the combination of drugs he takes (Palladia, Tramadol, Flagyl, Duramaxx). They have no answers.

Bear is a 7 year old Rottweiler. He became a Tripawd pup on April 1, 2013.

I am sorry to hear about Puppybear.  I have not heard of that before.  We didn't use Palladia.

Crazy right? My only relief is that he seems happy. I hope you have been doing well since Sassy's passing.

Never heard of it, try posting in Ask a Vet and keep an eye on him just to make sure no new or odd behaviors develop. It's probably nothing.

No, I have no imsight but just wanted to offer my support. It seems to be that it would be related to the drug combo.....jusg seems like it.

It seems there was a post here not too long ago...or maybe I saw it on The Dog Cancer Blog...where Dr. Ettinger says that, in tne past sne did not operate on a dog f theynhad ets. Now, however, she does because some dogs DO get really good extended time. Gosh, I wish I could remember exactly where I saw it. If it co es to me, I'll post.

Actually, The Dog Cancer Blog may be a good place to post the question about tje pink gums.

Continue to go withyour i sticts...your gut...when it co es to Puppybear Clearly, yo two are very tu ed t each other...very connected.

Sending yo all srts of hugs snd love! They just don't get any cuter than Bear!

YAY JERRY! Tee Hee! I like that "brain is like a data storage center"! Don't need no stinkin, computer memory gegabytes when you've got a memory like mine! Yeah, right!clown

But as long as you can continue to figure out what I'm "trying" to remember with the one piece of the puzzle I can remember on occasion..... yeah...it makes me look like an Apple Storage Center!

Now if I can just remember where the "submit reply" button is...............

Thank you all very much! Yes Sally we are coming up on a year. Not bad considering Bear was originally given 4 months. We have had a truly wonderful year. Every day matters so much more. We are taking nothing for granted. :))
