Hi all:
Holy cow, in all the excitement about Tika's IL-2 therapy I completely missed her 8 month ampuversary. Bad, momma. Bad, bad momma!
So, how's our girl doing? Great. Awesome. I'm really, really trying to keep a reality check going but…. but….. oh, she seems to be showing more energy, more sass, more joie de vivre these past three days than she had in the past couple of weeks. AND it has been 100+ degrees out with the heat index.
She took the stairs two at a time and jumped on Dad's head to wake him up this morning.
So….is this IL-2 treatment working? Has it stimulated her immune system to go kick butt and take name. I DON'T KNOW. We find out on September 1st. The wait is going to kill me.
We start our grand adventure to Colorado tomorrow. We will stay a couple of days in Estes Park, go meet some awesome Tripawds (oh, and their pawrents) and then zoom back to see momma's family. We are all excited.
So hopefully, I'll get another Tika video going this weekend. She is my hero. When people ask me if I have somebody I truly admire and has influenced my life (okay, bunch of my coworkers are going through the 7 Habits class at work) I say MY DOG. And I get funny looks. However, every time she does that little something that makes me go, Wow! I really need to get my perspective in order, I note it in Tika's Legacy file.
Take care all,
Tikaani and Kim

Tikaani and Kim,
Congratulations!!! The sound you hear from Northern California is the sounds of cheering. We will join the celebration vicariously and toast the great news. Seems that we have had a large number of these celebrations lately - and is is wonderful. We know how hard this journey can be and clearly you both are real heroes - especially to all the new TriPawds. Your story is great both because of the longevity but also because of the quality of life that you have recovered. It shows a real determination not to let these obstacles get in the way of the love and devotion that is obvious in your words.
Best of Luck and hope to hear of your next milestone.
Bob & Cherry (approximately three weeks ahead of you on this journey)
Have a great trip. It is nice that you can meet with another tripawd puppy! Congratulations on your 8th month anniversary. Each day is a celebration!
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
Thanks for the wonderful update! A very happy ampuversary indeed. An what better way to celebrate than with a road trip to the beautiful Rocky Mountains! Here's to many many more... 🙂

Wow. I did not realize that Tika was 8 months into her journey. Congratulations - I had no idea. We will all be on the edge of our seats on Sept 1!
Yes, I am sure I'll be confronting the 'great divide' as I return to teach in the new term - the divide between people who have dogs who are true companions and those who don't have dogs or else view their dogs very differently. I had a brief conversation with one person recently who probably wonders why I don't just 'replace the old model with a new one'. That is going to be difficult and a topic I might bring up for discussion in the next few weeks. Basically I have not bothered to mention all of this to people at work - they make allowances for family but dogs would not be considered family (they are my family!).
Have a great trip to Colorado. I wish it was closer to us - would love to meet other tripawds.
