Dakota's had some difficulty lately and the lump I've been watching is growing so tomorrow we're off to the V-E-T. (Shhh, don't say it out loud.) He's not eaten more than a few bites for several days and began refusing to stand up to eat about a week ago. I put his bowl beside him and he guards it. If Evelyn glances his way, he'll eat a little.
The lump is on his amputation side, sort of at the bottom of his rib cage. It is now about the size of an egg. It feels like a lipoma but I don't know if they grown there. I've always had dogs get lipomas on other places. I suppose anywhere is a good candidate. I will update tomorrow and hopefully we'll have some answers.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Ahhh Dakota, hang in there! Shari - Let us know what the v-e-t says. We have to spell words around here too. Once she figures out the spelling we have to call it/spell it something else! Lucy has a lipoma (I didn't even know that was what they were called until your post.) It was going to be removed during amputation... but there it still is. Fortunately it does not seem to bother her.

Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative. Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!
Oh D-dawg! It has to be B9!
I will be chanting until I hear an update. B9 B9 B9 B9 B9!!!!
Sending our best pawsitive thoughts your way!
Big hugs and heavenly kisses are being sent as well,

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Sorry to hear our buddy isn't feeling so fabulous. Hope the doctor has some answers for you, positive answers, about what's going on with the big D. BTW, lipomas can grow just about anywhere (Rio had three on her ribcage). Is Dakota's lump squishy or hard???

Well, it almost seems like Dakota has 2 lumps next to each other. In the soft tissue just below his rib cage, it's kind of squishy. But then at the bottom rib it seems like there is something on the rib itself. I don't think that's necessarily a good thing. He doesn't like me messing with it so I don't do too much there. He generally is happy and pretty normal, except for not wanting to stand up to eat. He still likes to tell Evelyn when she's having too much fun and he is managing the stairs ok, things I associate with having energy and engagement with daily life. We'll see tomorrow.

Thanks for the mojo everyone. I am not really worried, just a little bit concerned maybe. Dakota's never been a chowhound so the appetite isn't a tremendous indicator. He's also a lazy slug so he may have just decided the food's not good enough to stand up for. And he still does the usual stuff, like anxiously licking the carpet. I keep saying I expect him to crap out a throw rug with all the carpet fibers he's swallowing but no such luck. Yet!

I think it's just the lazy winter blues. Ranger has it, and it was almost 70 degrees today! He just moves a little slower, but is still a very happy pup. But just in case, b-e n-i-n-e...b-e n-i-n-e...b-e n-i-n-e...(we're still spelling, right?) I think all Dakota needs is a little sunshine
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Good luck today. Zeus has several of those bumps too. We had the first few tested and they were fatty (even the one that seemed attached and had the vet worried). Many good thoughts to you today. Keep us posted.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
