Hang in there, Laura. It just seems to be worse for some than for others. She (and you) will get past it. Look at the good days she has and remember they will all be this way soon.
Sending lots of good thoughts your way!

Toffee was standing at the end of the bed crying at 1 this morning. She'd had her pain meds and nothing looked amiss but obviously she was uncomfortable.
Sounds like the side effects from pain meds which many pups report here. If she is drinking and eating, it should just be a matter of time before Toffe is feeling herself again. It's a tough time of ups and downs indeed, just take it one day at a time and rty to remain strong. Thanks for the update!
PS: All Ruff Wear harness styles are now back in stock. Thnak you for your patience.

I think it's time for an update. Lot's going on so we haven't posted in a few days. Toffee had to go back for a little "clean up" on Tuesday. She will NOT leave the stitches alone, (why couldn't we have a dog with a short neck that can't reach her stitches?) Doc had to open her up clean her out, remove some dead tissue and sew her back up again. No infection, thank god.
I won't say she's like herself again, but she's close. She's always been "bouncy" (we should have named her Tigger) and she's definitely been more animated the last few days. She's meeting me at the door when I get home from work and is wagging her tail again. She has to stay muzzled to keep from bothering the sutures, and she is not happy about that, but she finally looks like she's healing. Tomorrow will be two weeks....maybe we're on the upswing.

Upswing indeed! 🙂 Is Toffee wearing a t-shirt? If not, that may help. Otherwise, sounds like things are going as well as can be expected. Thanks for the update!

I'm so glad she is finally feelling like herself again. Two weeks just seems to the be magic mark. All of Trouble's stitches were internal. I so wish I had taken pictures along the way. Her surgery site looked like a plastic surgeon stitched her up, and no stitches to chew at. I don't know why more vets don't take the time to do it this way. When I asked the vet about it, he said he would rather take the time initially, because so many of them will not leave the sutures alone and he ends up having to redo them.

My girl's suture's are also internal. Her incision site looked good from the first time I saw it, and it looks even better today. The bruising is almost all gone, as well. I will say, now that she's feeling a bit more like herself, she's started licking at it. But it's day 7 post-op, and the incision is well on its way to being "healed". So far, she's not been out of my sight for very long. When she is, and I'm worried about licking, I've just put a small towel over her stump, and that pretty much deters her. I have both an e-collar and a cervical collar (from past fosters) if it comes to that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it won't. (I hate those things.)
I, too, give the internal sutures a big thumbs up. 😉
