I always post here when I'm feeling like things are going downhill for K. This time, I wanted to tell you that K rallied in a huge way after reaching a low point more than a week ago. Her hind end weakness and trembling has disappeared. Her lungs haven't gotten any worse. Most importantly, she's happy!
Late last week, we decided to take K to one of our favorite camping places on Earth, even though we felt worried about her cancer. As soon as we arrived in the high mountain meadow where we like to camp, she yipped, barked, sprinted, butt-tucked, rolled in the grass, and generally acted like a goofy and healthy puppy. Our smiles were so wide! It truly showed me that it's better to live boldly than to sit at home waiting for the worst.
Our dogs never cease to teach us how to live with more happiness and love.
I've allowed myself to have a tiny spark of hope that maybe K's latest cocktail of chemo drugs are slowing her disease. We'll find out at CSU on Tuesday. Thank goodness that she's never had even a hint of bad side effects from any of the drugs.
Thanks for reading!
K, an 8 year old chocolate lab, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma of the radius and ulna on 12/23/11. She had stereotactic radiation to kill the bone tumors, and 3 rounds of carboplatin. On 3/16/12, lung mets were found. We tried several different kinds of chemotherapy to slow the lung mets but none worked. Finally, mets appeared at other sites, including her spine. She earned her angel wings on July 15, 2012. K changed my life, and I'll never forget her. Our/my journey is chronicled at romp-roll-rockies.blogspot.com.
So happy to hear K is feeling so well!! She is an incredible example of the "be in the moment" attitude of our 'kids.
Wishing many more happy camping trips for you K!
Hugs to you all

That's great news......I'm so glad you had a great time and K had a wonderful time. I know what you mean about living boldly rather than waiting around the house for the worst. You've inspired me! Go K Go!!
Here's to many more great times to come!
All our Best!!

Jack Russell born in 2001. Mast cell cancer found Dec 2009 and right rear amputation. Five rounds of chemo done before all treatment stopped. Living life to the fullest!! Read my story at http://rizzo.tripawds.com
WONDERFUL update!!! I have thought about you guys a lot since your last post and I am thrilled to hear that K is doing better. Thank you for posting this news - it has been a hard couple of weeks in this community and I would say that we all needed to read a bit of good news. Keep up the great work K!!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

What disease?!? K's livin' large - it may be a long time or it may be a short time but you are showing her a good time while she's here and that's all that really matters.
Believe me, I know the mental anguish that goes along with all this. There is never enough time. But I'm so glad you are having enjoying life, that is the only thing you can control. So whatever Tuesday brings, the most important thing is to make every day count. Remembering K acting like a goofball will bring you more comfort than you can imagine. And remembering quiet times will be comforting too.
Live purposefully.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
That is wonderful news. I often wonder how K is doing so it is great to read this post. I'm glad you were able to still go on your holidays with her and show her a wondeful time.
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
That is seriously cool! What a terrific thing for your pack to be able to celebrate another summer together! Congrats.
Keep us posted on the vet appointment, we're all cheering you on!

Great news! Glad K is living on her own terms. And she's right--it's easy to sit home waiting to die, but while we do that we aren't actually living. And that goes for humans as much as any species. (There's a local guy who's always needing our local orthopedist to put him back together, but that guy is out living!)
I was wondering about you with the High Park fire. I know you're in northern CO but assume you're not impacted or you'd tell us. I am about 10 miles from the one that ignited in the Boulder foothills last week, nowhere near the size of High Park. Let us know how K does next week and also that you guys are all safe.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Well this is fantastic news! One day at a time!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
It's always wonderful to hear such good updates 🙂 camping is fun for sure!

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog
Wishing you many more fun-filled days! Sending you positive thoughts for Tuesday. Joan and Lily
Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
