Hi everyone -
Thanks for all of your good thoughts on my last post. We had a nice vacation...absolutely bittersweet for me, but the dogs were soooo happy. I was thrilled to watch Clyde enjoy every second. He played as much as he wanted, we did lots of snuggling, and I took about a million pictures.
We had a vet appt today - we are getting started on the metronomic chemo, so keep your paws crossed that he does well on it. The vet is still thrilled with his progress...the actual tumor has shrunk a little bit more and his lymph node is much smaller. I can barely feel it at all...the vet measured it at about 1.5 cm; it was in the 3-4 cm range when we started. As usual, we are trying to be optimistic without having any expectations. Mr. Clyde continues to feel well, and very much enjoyed his Flying Dutchman after his appt today! I LOVED what Catherine and Spirit Scout suggested in my last thread...maybe with Holly having gotten so screwed, Clyde will blow the odds out of the water (she put it more eloquently!). Sure, there's not a lot of logic behind it, but where is the logic in any of this?
As many folks mentioned, YES, our vet is so so so so wonderful. I could literally go on for hours about how much I love him. I have been so happy with him and with everyone there. They have made this unbearable experience a bit more bearable. I saw one of the wonderful techs today who I haven't seen since the day before we lost Holly...he came out to the car that day to help us bring her in and suggested that rather than dealing with a gurney or anything, she would be more comfortable if we just carried her in on her bed, which seems so simple, but I wouldn't have thought of it with my brain being so cloudy, and it really was so nice for her to just lie on her bed rather than on the cold floor. Plus, there was some construction going on next door, and when he realized that the noise was loud, he insisted on moving us to a different room so that she wouldn't get too stressed out...anyway, just seeing him today made me choke up a little bit - it's funny what can trigger it sometimes. We did get a blow today, though - we found out that our favorite front desk person passed away suddenly...he is literally one of the nicest people I have ever met, and was amazingly sympathetic when we lost Holly. He also absolutely LOVED Clyde! He and my husband got to be buddies talking sports over the hours that we spent in that lobby. The thing that really makes this rough is that he was only 26 years old - and had a 2 year old daughter. It is just so sad and shocking....please keep his family, especially his daughter, and the wonderful folks at our vet hospital, who are just heartbroken, in your thoughts.
Now, for a little smile, here is Clyde chilling out at the vet. I think he would just live there if he could. He loves it!
Way to go Clyde, I love that pic!
I can't think of a better way to kick off the weekend than by knowing that your pack is getting some great news like this. After all that you've been through, what a fantastic report for Clyde. I'm curious what kind of metronomic chemo your vet is recommending. Do you know what medications he'll be taking yet? Did I miss that somewhere?
I'm so sorry to hear about the front desk guy at the clinic, how tragic! Why oh why do things like this happen? We'll never know. Sigh. I'm sure that a kind soul like him is somewhere beautiful, surrounded by the love of all those animals he helped in his short lifetime.
Live life to the fullest everypawdy, you just never know about tomorrow!

YAY CLYDE!! No one deserves good news more than you guys!! This post just makes my day.

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Hooray for the great news for Clyde! He looks oh so very cool in his shades! And hooray for getting a celebratory Flying Dutchman!
Keep kicking cancer butt, Clyde!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Thanks, everyone! It is really nice to get good news (made even better by getting to celebrate it here with our Tripawds friends!)!
Jerry - He's doing cytoxan - 12.5 mg/day and rimadyl
Jackie - I caught him staring at the Tripawds calendar at the vet...he thinks Miss August is pretty cute!
Way to go Clyde- you are one cool dude!
Does Clyde get treats at the vet, is that why he loves it? Quad pug Obie, who is painfully shy and afraid of everything also LOVES the vet- all of them! For him it is all about the treats.
Keep kicking that melanoma around!

Awww, so nice to hear that my Miss August is hanging up at your vet's office. I'm kinda sad to see August go!
She'd loved Clyde! She was a terrible flirt!

That is such wonderful news about Clyde. And I'm so glad he loves going to the vet. It makes these types of journeys so much easier if they think the vet is a great place.
Very sad to hear about the young guy dieing suddenly. It is yet another reminder that we really don't know what is around the corner, that "each day is a gift and not a given".
I look forward to Clyde's next post. I hope and pray it continues to be good news!
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end.
