Seems most pictures I've seen of front amputees, right after surgery, there was no cone of shame used. I assume it isn't needed since it would be very hard to chew on the bandage or stitches that close to their head. Just wanted to make sure I don't need to get a soft one before surgery.

I didn't use a cone at first- Jack wore a vest and seemed to ignore the surgery site for the first 10 days. Then it got itchy and I came home from work to find that she'd pulled out all of her stitches, so she was stuck with a cone until everything healed completely. Some need it, some don't!
I made a vest for my girl, i am looking at getting some made up for our three legged friends. It worked really well on my girl, took the swelling right down and stopped it from reacuring, it also helped to keep the dressing in place.
She looked very cool in it.
I will be looking for someone to trial a few when ive got them made up if anyone is interested in trying one
I would get one just to be sure, some dogs are verrrrrrry sneaky and can twist into the most unbelievable poses.

Every dog is different! My Happy Hannah...rear leg...never needed one...never messed with her incision at all..com.com but some dogs do!!
IF needed and IF a soft cone works, I wo u ld definitely try that over the big plastic thing.
As a little aside, the place I took Happy Hannah to off Broad Street in Richmond Virginia (not naming names:-)) charged for EVERYTHING pretty much double too! I remember they said "and we'll send her home with a cone in case she needs it"....great, right? And there was a $20 charge for that "grsture"! I was just soooo excited to pick her up I didn't even pay any attention to anything but her. Several days later when I found it in the car the shock of hiw HUGE it was blew me away!!! Even if she did need a cone...that thing was HUGE!!! Like made for an elephant!!!
Love her avatar and the blog pics....cant wait to see more!
Hang in there....remember...she isn't worried about a thing!!
Hugs!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I never used a cone with Domino, but he was a licker! Always wanted to lick his incision, so I just used a t-shirt to keep it clean and keep him off of it. Then when he was neutered a few weeks after his amp, I used the inflatable cone to keep him away from that, but it could also be used for a front amp.

Top photo is Domino 10 days post amp, bottom photo is Dom a few days after his neuter.“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”
Domino had his left front leg amputate on May 13th 2014 after being hit by a car. He's now living a happy healthy life on three legs :)
