Frazier is back home with us! I'm amazed as I watch him adapt to being a new tripawd. He's sleeping now in his favorite spot beneath the grandfather clock. He's also wearing an inflatable collar to prevent abusing the incision. I'll apply an ice pack later when I give him his nightly meds.
We bought some toddler size t-shirts that we'll try tomorrow.
I've changed my profile avatar to show my boy after returning home.
We feel truly blessed!!!
He is looking good!!! Wishing you all the best through the recovery period.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/
Oh what a hoppy day! So glad to hear he's home.
You probably already know this, but remember to use a towel around the ice pack, they can cause burns.
I hope you both have a restful night!

He looks good!
It's an amazing thing to be a tripawd pawrent!
Hope the next few days go well. Don't be surprised if he crashes a little tomorrow or the next day. Sometimes the remaining meds in their systems and/or the adrenaline kick from getting to come home can make them seem a little further along in their recovery than they are. It's very common to have what seems like a little set back.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Just a quick update after 1st complete day at home. Awesome!! He's eating everything in sight, drinking water, urinating regularly and completed 2 BM's (the discharge tech said don't expect any for 2-3 days). He walks better than I expected at this point and I can see his confidence increasing. Taking his meds and napping afterwards.
I'm cautiously optimistic at this point, but aware of the possible "crash" ahead, so I don't push him.
Frazier just took his last evening Tramidol so sleep will come knocking soon.
Later I kiss him on the top of his head and thank him for a great day (and pray for more)!
Wonderful! You know, Zeus didn't follow any of the rules, either. It is amazing when you have this idea in your head of what to expect and then your baby blows it out of the water and just goes on with life. Hope the rest of his recovery is just as smooth!

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Oh Frazier, you are just doing GREAT! Wow, you really know how to show pups how amputation recovery is done. Nice going my friend, keep it up!
