Rear leg amputation it seems mostly in the penis making its about three times the normal size and around it, now into chest. not much bruising at all. he seems to have a small amount of discomfort trying laying down, but its still a happy guy, eating and drinking everything else. Vet doesn't seem to worried, but if anyone else has had encounters like this the reassurance would be great right now.
Thanks!
Thanks for joining, sorry to hear about your pup's trouble. What's his name? has he been neutered?
Can you post a picture? We've been chatting with another member whose "in tact" male GSD is experiencing serious swelling in the scrotum after a rear leg amputation. Apparently surgery may be required since all the blood vessels make that area hard to drain.
Aside from that, swelling, seromas and bruising are quite normal. Here's a video describing seromas in more detail, as well as other common complications .

we named him thrice, when i found him behind my work about a month ago he was missing the bottom of his hind leg, causing him to slouching and not walk upright on the other leg. we had the surgery done last wednesday. today he has begun to have a lot of redness around his incision. i am going to take him back to vet tomorrow. he was also neutered and micro-chipped during the same surgery.
First night with us, back left leg you can see missing paw
Today the redness appeared but swelling has gone down a little.
Bless you for taking in this pup, he is so lucky to have found you.
Ouch! Poor guy. The swelling is definitely something to have your vet look at. It could be a seroma , but anything is possible. If he is eating and drinking and energetic that is a GREAT sign! Is it leaking or smelly at all?

Hi thr, my Gsd has had his amputation 15 days back.. He has d fluid built up in his scrotum .. N it has become huge causing n lot of pain n discomfort.. Today the vet has put him on diuretics n pain killers .. N hs asked me to observe him until Friday. If things don't improve he may have to undergo neutering which I m nt really lookin fwd to... I hope his swelling comes down .. Anyone else has faced this kind of thing?
My yellow lab just had hind leg amputation on Monday. Brought him home yesterday. Had an extremely rough first night at home pacing all night long. Surgery center prescribed a mild sedative to help with what they believe is more anxiety than pain (he has been given pain meds consistently.) We will see how tonight goes. He has quite significant swelling of his scrotum and penis area. Waiting for the doctor to call after seeing the photos.
