What does a dog do to prepare for his first Chemo
why! catch and eat a rabbit of course, what else would you do?
Today was the first Chemo session with Carboplatin, went well although Jack did decide that he didn't like the drip sobecause it was boring tried to take it out and had to have another put into his other leg, dope
anyway he has made a lovely bed this evening
can you see the picture? I can see it on the ipad not the laptop
He seems quite subdued tonight that is normal isn't it?
I can see the photo and he looks very relaxed.
yes, calm and subdued is a good way to describe the first night home. It is exhausting, I am imagine, getting the chemo and being in the doctors office. Shelby always went to sleep early. I hope they sent you home with some anti-nausea meds too. He might be feeling a wee nauseous (even though they usually give them a shot for that too). Shelby had to be hand-fed her supper the first couple of days on chemo but otherwise, we sailed through it and I am sure you will too!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
OK, dumb question. A real rabbit?
Active 10+ Pyr mix suddenly came up lame with ACL tear in left rear leg. Scheduled for a TPLO but final pre-op x-rays indicated a small suspicious area, possibly OSA, which could have caused the ACL tear. Surgeon opened the knee for TPLO but found soft bone. Biopsy came back positive for OSA. Became a Tripawd 9/18/14. Carbo6 with Cerenia and Fluids. Pain free and living in the moment. Crossed the Bridge on 7/12/15 after probable spread of cancer to her cervical spine. A whole lifetime of memories squeezed into 10 months. Here's her story: Eloise
Denise!! Add me to the dumb question club!! I just couldn't quite respond at first....I'm thinking (and kinda hoping) she's referring to what appears to be a torn up suffy/bunny....maybe?
Anyway, yes, as Alison said, just the entire ordeal of the chemo adventure can wear them out! Resting is quite normal!
Hugs to Mr. Jack!

Ummm.. I was thinking it was a faux rabbit from the stuffing seen above ... or maybe hoping... Jasper "kills" her "babies" and that destruction looks familiar ... However, I can't be sure since I can't see the face on what was that baby!

Glad I'm not the only one wondering about Jack's "rabbit". I thought, oh it has to be a toy rabbit. But then I thought, hey, it's Jack. It could be a real rabbit!

Lol, what a way to celebrate! Murphy caught a real rabbit once right after I adopted him. It was one of his favorite experiences and one of my least favorite experiences. It was also the first time I gave him a bath!
Murphy, became a tripawd on August 17, 2015. Went to the rainbow bridge on July 5, 2016.
Sorry folks it was a real live fluffy bunny rabbit
The girls catch and kill at least one a day, Jack usually just helps them out but since we walk him on his own at the moment or with our oldie it was all his own work
But the fluff in the picture was a teddy bear and a tug toy which also had to die
Seems a bit off his food at the moment, eats it all but not with quite as much relish as he was a couple of days ago and no we didn't get anything for his stomach but I have some tree barks powder so I guess it would be sensible to add that, I forgot this evening but did yesterday evening, might cut back the turmeric paste a bit too that might taste a bit off with the chemo
and yes just assume that since its Jack and its a Toller then anything could happen!
The fact that he ate, even if it wasn't with much gusto, is still good. Chemo can sometimes interefe with his appetite for a day or two. more along the lines of just eating a little bit though.
Don't have any insight I to the tree bark laste or cutting back the turmeric paste. If you think he is experiencing nausea though, I would definitely get some Cerenia from the vet to settle his tummy.
Keep on keeping on Jack!

Well, I am impressed that a tripawd of any kind could catch a rabbit! The only time one of my dogs (a quadpaw to boot) caught anything was when a pigeon stunned itself on a window and practically fell into Max's lap. I glanced out just in time to see these bright red legs sticking out one side of his mouth and then, whoosh! gone. I think Max dreamt of reliving that moment for the rest of his days!

I was a bit surprised but there was enough noise that he must have caught it, he ate with definite gusto and he moves too fast for me to catch him and get it off him and this was the evening before the chemo, not sure he'd be so enthusiatic about it today, maybe in a day or so again
Oh boy yuck! Murphy tries really hard to catch anything he can! lol There's now a ground hog living under our deck and last week it was out in the park behind us ... that was fun! All 3 dogs were determined that that stupid thing was NOT getting back into our yard! Murphy worked just as hard as Cassie & Max to keep that stupid thing out - he ran down one side, then back the other way, then tried to come over .. ended up scratching Cassie's nose Who knew that those fat things could run so fast? We gave Murphy a Rimadyl that evening because I thought for sure he was going to be hurting, but the next day he was running around like normal
Cassie always gets sick when she catches a bunny
Hope you're still feeling good Jack!
