Hi, Peaches' mom here and I am a bit worried about her today. Yesterday was a wonderful day with her, she ate, went for a walk, cuddled and more. So why did she not want to eat this morning, not even yogurt. Is this all a part of the chemo process which she hasn't had since the 28th of July. She didn't experience any sickness and ate well after chemo. This is the first time ever she has ever rejected her food or anything. I had to convince her to go outside. I am a bit confused, is this normal? Is this all a part of the emotional roller coaster everyone speaks of? Just to reiterate, I am worried because she has been absolutely fine and cheerful until this morning, please advise...thank you!
If she had a big day yesterday, maybe she's just tired. Watch her closely. Prepare to get her to a vet if she worsens. I will also say here that it is easy to over react. Don't allow yourself to panic until you have a confirmed reason to.

My two cents is only worth that much as far as opinions go. I will say in doing chemo with my boy that he didn't experience upset tummy's that far out from the chemo date. I think about a week after his chemo dates was when we noticed he had "the runs".
What type of dog is peaches? Does she have long fur? A deep chest? It could be any number of things, from being uncomfortable because of heat, possible bloat, to it is summer and she just isn't as hungry as when it was winter. I would say start a notebook with her daily food intake, pills, activities, potty breaks. That is the best way to remember everything, (I believe Trouble taught me this ) and it is very helpful to pinpoint aberrant behavior.

This was very helpful to me. In the beginning, I could remember every detail, but 27 months later, not so much. I started the notebook last summer when I began to see changes that I thought I would need to detail for Dr F. It takes the guess work out of the equation.

Did you check her temperature?
My dog typically stopped eating about 3-4 days after chemo for a day or two, but there was once when he seemed to not feel well two weeks after chemo. When I checked his temperature, it was high, and it turned out that his WBC was low.
I don't call it over reacting...I just call it being cautious 🙂
So I am back fromt he vet and Peaches had a fever and she ran some blood work. Her white blood cell count was extremely low, she said it was 190. So Peaches has to stay at the vet's for a couple of days and have an IV and antibiotics. The vet was shocked at how low her count was. So 2nd round of chemo for this thursday will be postponed until further notice. Dr also said the dose of carboplatin would probably need to be lowered because it's showing signs of it being too strong. Bad news is, it will probably not be as effective. This really stinks!!! Once again we are pretty low here emotionally. I hope all ends up well in a couple of days.
I'm glad that Peaches got to the doctor, sounds like they'll take very good care of her. Max and I are sending big furry hugs to the both of you!

Oh glad you saw the vet. I'm sorry Peaches, please feel better soon.
Even the strongest chemo is never a guarantee, it's so random as to how effective it works. Try to stay pawsitive, Peaches needs you to imagine the best pawsible outcome.

I'm sorry Peaches is having a hard time. I'm glad you had her checked, and glad she is where she can have constant care. It isn't uncommon for the chemo to cause a drop in white count, or for the chemo to need to be adjusted.
Sending good thoughts for a speedy recovery and for Peaches to be back on track with her treatment soon.

I'm glad you were able to get Peaches into the vet and she is getting the care she needs. Here's to a fast recovery and that she's back home with you soon!

Wow, it is sooooo good that you listened to your inner voice! Good job knowing what your pup was trying to say. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery.
Chemo is different for everyone, there are dogs who have had it and passed very quickly and dogs who haven't had it and are stilll cancer free. Don't let this part get you down, you are doing an awesome job of fighting this disease. Nothing is guarenteed and there are no "silver bullets". If there was a tried and true formula we would all be doing it. Just keep doing the best you can

Hope Peaches is feeling better soon! Good thing you didn't just chalk it up to "over reacting".
This roller coaster is a rough ride, but try to focus on the good moments and be sure to come here when you need support. We've all been there!
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
