Shanna,
I think that is probably true but Emily is only five so I didn't expect it yet!
Debra
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
An update on Emily:
Emily is doing a bit better today. She is doing what we are referring to as a "hop and plop" but at least she is trying to walk. She has only had four doses of prednisone so far so I am encouraged.

Debra and Emily,
Thanks for keeping us all posted and glad to hear the the prednisone is having a positive effect. We know that you will be up to the challenge but do there have to be so many???? We are all pulling for you to get this one behind you.
Paws crossed and nothing but pawsitive thoughts headed you way.

You go, girl! Keep it up, Emily!!

We are all pulling for you Em!! Shilo give you a big lick of encouragement!!! Thank you for keeping us up-to-date!!
Shilo diagnosed with osteosarcoma 9/4/2009, amputation 9/9/2009. ShiloAnne lost her battle 11/23/2009 where she regained her fourth leg and is patiently waiting for her parents to join her. We will always love you baby girl.
Still hoping you see improvement every day. It sucks to have to rely on meds to make them feel well, but it's so much better than the alternative. Stay strong you two, sounds like you're on the way to recovery. Hop and plop is a GOOD thing!
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
Hope that each day Emily feels better and better! Keep hopping and plopping!!!

Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
I am just seeing your posts. I am really glad that Emily doesn't have something worse and that she is doing better on the pred. I would definitely give her some glucosamine and chondroitin, perhaps Synovi, along with the oil, and I second Heather's suggestion of giving her some physical therapy. I think if you can afford it and find a provider that some acupuncture could do wonders. I hope she continues to get better and is running around before you know it. I'll be thinking about her. Stay sane.
Emily is doing a little better, I guess, but not what I was wishing/praying for. She can stand up on her leg and now she is more like 'hop, hop, hop, plop'. Improvement but not good Her back leg doesn't seem to be able to hold her weight while she walks. I will be talking to the vet tomorrow and see what our next step is.

Good luck with Emily's vet visit today. I hope they can come up with some sort of plan, to help her feel better soon.
I'll be thinking of you both... sending a big hug!

Hi Emily and Debra! It must be very scary when one of their three good legs runs into problems.
But hang in there. Even with hip and arthritis problems, some of the dogs get around. Maybe the pain will lessen in a few more days. My understanding is that the effects of Glucoasmine start to be apparent after two weeks. Best of luck at the vet today!
Hmm, does Emily like to swim and do you have access to a pool??
