It's osteosarcoma. Not a big shock really, but one always has a tiny glimmer of hope that it was just going to be an infection! One of CSU's oncologists from the Flint Animal Center is going to call my vet and go over the chemo procedures. Right now he is scheduled for his first chemo session on Tuesday the 12. Looking forward to getting the treatment started and my boy getting healthier and hopefully cancer free!

I am so sorry about the diagnosis.  I know how you feel.  When we were waiting for the results, deep down I knew, but I was also holding on to that little glimmer of hope.  When the oncologist told me is was Osteo, it felt like I had been punched in the gut, yet once again.  Keep the faith, and stay strong for your baby.  Good luck with the chemo.  Cadence had 4 sessions of Carbo.  She had no problems other than being a bit tired after each session.  Let us know how your baby does on the 12th.

Bummer.  But, you're in the right crowd.  I found I was crying a ton before, during, and after diagnosis.  Then, when we met with Jackson's onco, my tears were far less frequent and my mood even here changed.  Meeting with an expert, hearing how she thought his cancer looked (if one can *really* tell?!), and her recommended treatment, I felt so much better.  Having a plan and acting on it is empowering.  Plus, seeing how well Jackson is getting around on 3 legs and handling all his meds - we're pretty confident in our treatment course.  I hope you receive the same feeling next week - and that could be doing IV chemo, metronomics , or abstaining from those courses.  Whatever you decide, whatever if best for your pup, we're here and we understand and we support.  Go get 'em, Duncan!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

oh yeah we know what you mean. Sometimes you want to pretend it's just a big ugly mistake. I'm so sorry.

But fear not! Guess what I just read today:

"Despite the aggressive behavior locally in the bone and the high metastastic rates, osteosarcoma is a highly treatable tumor in my opinion."

My favorite oncologist, Dr. Sue Ettinger, said this in her latest DogCancerBlog post, "Osteosarcoma, Part 1." I loved reading those words so much. If a vet had said that to us when I was first diagnosed, my people would have felt SO much more optimistic. So I hope they help you as you embark on your own osteo journey.

We are here for you.

That quote is so awesome and so wonderful to hear for us with beloved pets who have OS. Can't wait until she posts the rest of the blogs on that topic!
