Well, the diaper wasn't necessary--it barely got damp at all. Some fluid was on Odin's shirt. But overall the fluid has definitely lessened, thank God. He's still eating, drinking, and peeing/pooping. But moving very little--I think one of his remaining three legs is bothering him. Tomorrow he goes to the vet to get the drain removed. I'll ask her about pain relief (that is, if he's getting enough).
I think that is a great idea, pain management can definitely be tricky and it surely would not hurt to make sure he hasn't strained one of his good legs. Good luck, keeping you in our thoughts.

We got our drain out yesterday..we've had some leakage when she gets up and walks still. I'm assuming pretty normal.Have you guys been using warm compresses on Odin to help w/ swelling and drainage?
No, the vet didn't say anything about that. The swelling seems to have gone down a lot.
I'm glad you mentioned the leakage post-drain--I won't put away all the sheets and towels just yet, then. 🙂

Haha nope, don't put them away yet! We are 2 days post drain removal and still a little dripping.
Hope all is well!!
We had a good checkup at the vet today! Odin got his drain removed and fentanyl patch taken off. He jumped into the back of our small SUV like nothing had happened, I could hardly believe it! But he did need help getting down. He's still pretty lethargic, but the vet said his incision looks really good. We get sutures out in three days.
Hooraaaay Odin! That's wonderful news!
Glad you were able to help him get out of the SUV. Even low cars are often too high for Tripawds, it's always best to help them out to minimize joint impact. Good job!

Update! Odin is doing well. Got his sutures out yesterday. Still resting a lot but seems raring to go on walks (we make them very, very short 🙂 His incision looks amazing and his hair is growing back quickly. I couldn't believe how fast he ran back to the house after peeing outside today.
(((((((Hug))))))))) !!!!! Whew... that is just wonderful news, thank you 💝
That awesome dog is starting his new life and it just makes my heart skip a beat.

Hi everyone,
I wanted to update our thread and let you know that Odin is doing really well! He is three months out from surgery and still loves to go on his walks (and pulls on the leash too hard sometimes, as per usual--he is still VERY strong!). If anything, he's doing *better* without the leg; he wakes up in the morning with some pep in his step since he doesn't have the pain of his leg bothering him. His hair is growing back nicely.
In retrospect, I wish I had been warned before surgery about the amount of drainage he would have--it was a LOT. We were changing shirts multiple times a day in the beginning. Also, I appreciated this forum telling me about how the hospital pain meds would wear off, how it would take a full two weeks for him to really feel better, and much more.
You've all been so great. Thank you.
HAPPY THREE MONTH AMPUVERSARY ODIN!!!😁 AND YAAAAAAAAY FOR PEP IN YOUR STEP!!!😁
Hearing how well Odin is doing is what makes all this worthwhile. Thanks for sharing this great news.
ICE CREAM AND CAKE FOR EVERYONE!!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Happy Ampuversary Odin!! I'm so glad he's doing well. Special treats and ice cream please!!
I wish things had been easier with the drainage. Unfortunately you just never know how or if that's going to happen. The amount Odin had was more than the norm, but it does happen sometimes.
You advocating for him and taking such good care is why he pulled through and is happily celebrating this time now. ❤️❤️
