Five days post op, and I took the Fentanyl patch off Cooper.  Now that it's leaving his system - he's been on it for a week and a half, prior to the surgery as well - he's much less sedated and feeling better. Last night he hopped around the house, seems so much more animated, and leaned into me, standing up, for a while while I gave him a massage...his legs and back have got to be pretty stiff from all this inactivity as well as using different muscles.
Now he's laying next to me on the office bed, on his back and I just gave him a belly rub. He has a less doped-up expression on his face than he did before, too. 🙂
One day at a time...today he gets the adventure of going to the vet (he loves that) to get the drain out (he might not love that part)...considering it's only five days after pretty huge surgery, I think he's doing quite well!

I know it's normal to want to sleep a lot, and I'm letting him do that. But when he goes out to eat and potty, I encourage him to hobble around and move some. When he gets going, he hops around pretty quickly.

Way to go Cooper!! So glad he is feeling better. The worst part is over hopefully and after the drain and staples/stitches come out he will feel even better! The first 2 weeks really are hell, but after that things quickly get pretty much back to normal, hopefully for a long time.

Max still gets sore sometimes when he overdoes it and you will know when that is. I think you are right about the muscles and using different ones. Id be hobbling around like an old lady!

Good luck at the vet today.......sending a Tripawd high five to ya Coop!!

Well…I give up. Not a single link works to post a photo for me here. Usually I have no problems doing this.

But…he got schmoozed on at the vets, and I stopped at the big river park to see if he wanted to get out and sniff around. He did. And get this. He RAN!!!!

I don't care what tomorrow holds, today is great. He also managed the stairs in front of the house just fine, and insisted on jumping into the van by himself. (However I'm too nervous to let him jump out, I lift him down.)

PS thanks Paula and Max! They were laughing at the vets...he did a perfect front sit and one of the techs wasn't thinking and asked him for a high five. He looked at her like she was crazy. "Give me the damn treat already. I've earned the right to get treats without doing dumb tricks!"

Not sure what's going on ... your web links (like above) are appearing just fine. I added instructions for embedding photos hosted by Webshots in the tech support thread.

Webshots doesn't exactly make it easy, but it works!

  1. Under the picture you want to post, click the little website icon. It says “Copy the code to post this phot in a forum”.
  2. Select the preview size. we recommend "425".
  3. Copy the “Direct link to image”.
  4. Paste that in the Image URL field when using the insert/edit image button in the post editor.

Thanks for the update. Glad to see Cooper getting around so well!

Aha!! The only step I didn't follow before was choosing the preview size. That did the trick. Yay, and thanks!
