My sweet soulmate Roane was diagnosed with osteo in June of 2019. Had a rear leg amp on July 2nd & crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her sister Gypsy on the first day of Autumn Sept 23 2019.
He is so dang handsome! Happy New Year and great job Dave!
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Short Video of Dave's First Walk
I've posted a very short video of Dave's First Walk (outside the house rather than in the garden).
He loved being out, just difficult to convince him he needed to go home. I didn't want to over tire him.
Hi Alyssa, I've been following Duke's story and I'm sure it won't be too long before he's out on a walk again. We literally went a few hundred yards today, just because I'm sure that Dave is going a little stir crazy in the house. We're hoping that a couple of really short walks a day to start with will build up his strength and confidence for longer walks in the future.
Dave (and we) have been very lucky with his recovery, but there have been a few rocky periods - mainly restlessness where he just couldn't seem to get comfortable for more than a few minutes. He still gets a bit like that now, I think he misses sleeping on his other side, perhaps it doesn't feel right yet to do it.
I've spent a lot of time reading this website and its clear that every dog recovers at their own pace. The important thing is they do recover in their own time and go on to full and happy lives.
When I was first told that Dave needed his leg amputated I thought there was no way he would be able to cope, I didn't think we'd be able to cope. But he is, and we are, and most days are better than the last one so it's onwards and upwards, for Dave and for Duke.

I loved seeing Dave looking so happy on his walk. Lucky hasn't been on a full walk yet mainly because he's crazy on a leash and I dont want him to over do it. Now that he's 2 weeks post op and has had his stitches removed, I think we will try a short walk this weekend. Thanks for sharing.

He looks soooo happy! YAY for a short walk and good for you for being so vigilant about not letting him overdo it. There will be plenty of time for fun in the near future. Keep it up!

The video is wonderful! Dave loves so effortlessly. A beautiful thing to see!
And good point about why our tripawds arr si r3srless at first sometimes when it comes to laying down. Most dogs have a certain "patter ", a certain "direction" when they circle and circle as they are making their "nest". And they prefer laying on one side more than the the other. Of the amp I terrupts that habit I think it causes some frustration until they develop a new routine for sleeping.
Also, if a dog is used to sleeping on their amp side, it may take a few weeks before they are comfort on. that side again.
Thanks again for the video. Such a good example of how well a bigger guy can handle three just fine!

A very short video of Dave tackling the stairs on his way to bed yesterday.
I haven't managed to catch him coming down them yet, he's too quick!
That is awesome that Dave is doing so well. I am sure he has taught the vets a thing or two about a large dog becoming a tripawd!
He is definitely an Inspiration to tripawds everywhere and so dang handsome!

That really is an incredible video! Rear leggers "usually" have a much harder time going up stairs. It's hard getting push off momentum with just one back leg.
Of course, there is nothing "usual" about Dave!! Dave is floating so effortlessly up the stairs, it's as though he's been on three all his life.
If Rene sees this (and she will), I'm sure she'll add to our Tripawd videos.😎
Keep showing 'em what's possible Dave! You're da' Champ!
